Hi folks,
Looking for a bit of advice.
We are lucky enough to be going on holiday to Cuba this year, flying Monarch from LGW -> Holguin on 27th August, returning to LGW on 11th September.
We stay in Glasgow, so are flying down to LGW on 26th August as we depart LGW at 07.00
The flight back from Cuba is due to arrive back at 07.15 , do you think that booking onto the 11.25 BA flight back to Glasgow builds in sufficient time to acount for delays & possible changes to the flight times etc. ?
Our travel agent said that we should wait until the flight times are confirmed (about 2 weeks before) before booking with BA! That is likely to cost a fortune … already all £15 seats with BA are gone, the next cheapest are £25 – who knows how long they will be available.
Would appreciate advice from anyone who knows about these sort of things. Apparently our insurance won’t cover us if we are delayed back to LGW as we don’t have an annual travel policy, just one for the holiday which is LGW->Cuba->LGW.
Oh, the joys…. 🙂
Thanks in advance!

yeah, but not if you’ve just got off an overnight flight and just want to get home…

8 hours would be great. Here’s the formula:
LGW + 8 Hours + Camera = FUN!

Hiya,
Yes, MON are flying Glasgow -> Cuba in the summer, but only for about 4 weeks … think it ends mid-July sometime.
When we booked it wasn’t even an option.
Still thinking over those BA flight connection times …. don’t fancy waiting 8 hours at LGW!

I thought Monarch were starting a Glasgow-Cuba direct service this summer wouldn’t that be handy ?
Enjoy the trip whatever happens, I was sat beside a Glasgow lady on a Gatwick-Glasgow BA 737, who’d just returned from Cuba and she couldn’t stop raving about the place.

Hi,
Thanks for all the replies.
The next flight LGW->GLA (after 11.15) is 15.15 so if we arrived on time then we got an 8-hour wait … 🙁 But if we were late for the 11.15 then I know that BA have no need to put us on the next flight as the much-cheapness tickets are non-refundable & non-transferrable.
It’s a bit of a delicate balancing act methinks!!!! … anyone know how likely it is that the flight time might be changed (as opposed to delayed) ?
Just now we are looking at £67 each return on GLA->LGW->GLA , have been told that if we leave it much later then it could be as much as 3 times that …. maybe we should just have picked Majorca as our destination! 🙂

I would say no, that’s not enough time.
Charter airlines (some of them anyway) occasionally experience huge delays on flights inbound. Once such example was when we flew Airtours back from Jamaica last year and were 4 hours late. Obviously, if you’re 4 hours late, you’ll miss your flight.
But then again, if it is on time, you’ll be made to hang around the airport for quite a while.

Connections
I think you are allowing plenty of time for your connection.
Do bear in mind though that if you are travelling on a discounted scheduled ticket (as with your BA ticket to GLA) they are non-transferrable, and as such BA would be very unlikely (and not obliged) to put you on the next flight.
Whatever you do, have a great trip.

I personally would say thats enough time. If there is a delay, BA will probably put you on the next flight anyway.
As much as I love being at airports, after just coming off a red-eye there is nothing worse than hanging around for several hours for a connection, so I think your timings are perfect.
