Pics of you local "eye in the sky"

A different themed thread for a change… and different aircraft to go with it too.

I thought that it may be interesting to post a pic/pics, of our local radio traffic watch aircraft.

For example here in London, the main radio station is Capital FM (95.8), and they call their traffic watch, the “flying eye”. But unlike the usual helicopter type of eye in the sky, they use a small aircraft, not sure what type it is, due to the fact that small prop aircraft, aren’t really in my area.

Pic of the “flying eye” below.

Looking forward to seeing you eyes in the sky.

Is Ian Skelley not on the board down Edminceton Drive way? In which case, I hardly see Tiger having much to do with it…

Although, Tiger’s show was well past the Eye in the Sky time slot, surely (I don’t think George Bowie’d have a problem with it… ;)).

A few months back I posted that helicopters didn’t tend to be used as ‘flying eye’ aircraft in the UK due to high cost but I’m pleased to say I’ve been proved wrong.

Ah yes… the Irn Bru Eye In The Sky, a Bell Jet Ranger flown by the charismatic “Captain George (RIP).

Clyde Helicopters no longer provide the service for Radio Clyde. It’s now a fixed wing service operated by I don’t know who ?

There was a time when a local and well known Glasgow car dealers wanted to be the eye in the sky main sponsor. The dealer was the Ian Skelley Group. Unfortunately the service would have been know as the “Skelley Eye In the Sky”. Even Tiger Tim would have had a hard time introducing that one !:D

I believe Radio Clyde used to use this ‘Bell Mob that got knocked out of Europe by a Czech pub team’ (that’d be a Bell R*nger, then…;) ) for traffic reports.

Only “Eye in the sky” I could think of is the Channel Islands Airsearch Islander.

It’s a GA-7 cougar.
I have a few hours in one of these machines. Not many of them around.

I also nearly ended up flying this “eye in the sky” a few years ago.
