Strange looking 747

Today, I could see a 747 on in the landing pattern at EBLG with a surprising colour scheme.
This plane seems to be a cargo one (also saw it last week in the evening, and there was no light inside the cabin).

It is painted in a scheme like the old Lufthansa one, with the blue stripe on the fuselage, a black nosecone, a blue tail and a yellow circle in it. I was too far away to see anything more.

Has anyone more infos on that one?

Companies operating out of EBLG are Polar, Atlas Air, CAL, TNT, Icelandair, and some others. There are very fex pax flights, the only ones being charters.

Interflug62M,

The 2 pics are indeed from the AL-1, the USAF’s new “laser plane”

And If you could find anythig about that strange 747, I would be very interested. It seems to be a frequent visitor to EBLG. (But I’m not in the mood to pass my time on the apron to wait for it 😉 )

frankvw-spooky this but last week saw a 747 at MHZ exactly matching your description operating a USAF charter. I am sure that it had an N regn: but as I was driving at the time for my work I could not stop to investigate further. I have friends who log such things in the MHZ area, so maybe something will turn up. If it does I’ll get back on it. I agree though it loked exactly like the old LH scheme minus the titles and logo. I could not see any titles on the aircraft itself.

I know you said it had a blue tail with a hard blue line running down the fuselage, but this is a long shot…

At one time, i thought the same, but the one i saw had a dark blue stripe on the length of the fuselage.

In fact, it looked like that:

The only problem, that scheme is from the 80’s?!?
