Yep i started in Feb 1994 so thats not far off nine and a half years now.I know that the MD-83 was probably not the best a/c to start off a charter operation but after 12 years the airline has been operating the MD-83 was a good stepping stone to get where we are now.

i’ve got a promotional pic at EGCC of several AIH MD83s on the apron – its a brilliant photo that i still have on my wall to this day!

I haven’t got fond memories of them either!
Flew once (well twice, you know what I mean) EMA-ACE-EMA.
EMA-ACE
The aircraft landed late, then they had to change the tyre!
6 hour delay.
ACE-EMA
Don’t know how true this was but because the ACE runway is quite short we couldn’t take on full fuel, so had to stop in Nantes to re-fuel due to strong head winds.
This time it was an A321 and no delays whatsoever, I’m glad they are gone!

Yeah and I went on one of those AIH md-83’s too… blimin horrible! 🙁 Specially where I was sitting… right at the back… and nothing but engine to see out of the window.
Although the return flight that I had on this aircraft was funny. Whilst waiting for the plane to be cleaned, etc. Whilt refuling, the “fuel pipe” came loose, sqwuirting fuel all over the aircraft, the fire brigade came to throughly douse the aircraft with water to get it off. Anyhow, about 1/2 later we were on our way… about 10 mins into the flight the Captain came on over the PA system, and said… “ladies and gentleman, we are currently having a problem and the back of the aircraft” …. pause in speech… which left us all to think that because of the petrol spill there was an engine problem. “the ovens in the back galley are not currently working so your meals will be a little later getting to you than expected. A sigh of relief from every passenger! :p
What a flight… never gonna forget that day.

Thats a shame would love to see the MD-83 in operation again. When i started with Airtours thats the only a/c we had. Many a fond memory there.

originally they were going to use 2 MD83s on flightlines AOC, but to be fair the a/c would be spending an awful lot of time on the ground. I think we’ll have to wait until next summer to see if they bring the flights “In House”
According to their “webpage” – thats all it is www.planetair.co.uk the Palma has been dropped – four routes only at present
Alicante Saturday
Malaga Saturday
Tenerife Friday
Faro Sunday
Its all to do with the Villa changeover dates – they are a flight only provider

Ta for that mate.So this year Planet Air are going to be more of a tour operator than an airline. Are they planning on starting up a proper operation next year ? Im i wrong or did i read somewhere they were going to use a MD-80 varient ?
By: EGNM - 26th April 2003 at 20:01
Nope – Planet Air this year are not operating their own a/c. The flights are still going ahead but been operated y other airlines a/c based abroad – for example the Sat Alicante flight is operated by a Hola Airways B733, Sunday Faro Air Luxor A320 – other operators incl Spanair MD83 To Tenerife, Air Europa to Palma, and Furture to Malaga. Hope this helpsa – not sure what the future holds!

From what I heard, French charter operator Euralair will be operating the flights with a B737-800 which will be ferried to LBA on Thursdays and fly back to CDG on Sunday evening.
