Ive just been browsing thru’ my Jet airliner production book and came across the VFW/Fokker 614, apparently only 23 of these aircraft were built between 1972-1980 with only 5 remaining, the rest having been broken up, can anyone throw anymore light on these seemingly rare aircraft?

I had also heard that competition with the F28 curtailed the 614s production life. Apparently the two ex Luftwaffe/German Govt. examples are about to return to civilian use based in Sweden I think as per Preston.

Maybe too much competition for the F28?

Don’t know the answer to your question Dave but this engine was what was intended for the original 146. However when HS/BAe got round to building the Tonka Toy Starlifter the engine was no longer in production.

on top of the wing…u mean rear mounted. The only jet with top of the wing mounted is the AN 74.

All i kow is it was emant to operate to small airfields and used very less space for take offs and landings.
