Lhr

Got to go down to LHR on Sunday morning (picking my dad up from a flight). Anyway, he lands early 9am (early if you have a 2 hr drive!) but hopefully I can get an hours of spotting / photogrphy before picking him up.

Anyone been recently? Wheres the best spot to go, any suggestions?

LOL. Too true. I reckon eventually the congestion charge will hit all airports in and around london. 🙁 They will do anything to get money!

Yeah, forgot about that!

I’ll just get on a MYL flight to AMS for the day instead, be cheaper!

Thanks again Andrew.

This is why I prefer MAN, spots right next to the runway, very easy to park and no bother at all!

Hi Dan. T5 building has unfortuneatly become a major factor for picture taking in place 3. Last 2 times I visited LHR I was parked up in the car at place 4, though given it was a sunday, when the sheds are not in use, so as you to are going on a sunday you should be ok to park here.

As for all the ins and outs on the Esso garage, ask T5, the Esso guru! :p lol

Thanks again Andrew.

I’ve been to the area 3, but there was a lot of building stuff for T5 last time, is it still possible to get views?

Just one more question about the Esso garage. Is it possible to get pics without the fence? Is it easy to park? And finally, am I likely to get turfed of?

Mark, thanks for letting me know about that, may have a look but the last one at EMA was a little disappointing.

If you can stay until 10 am there is the “Aircraft Enthusiasts Convention” in the visitor centre. The views aren’t very good (Atrocious if they are on 09’s) but it looks like it will be quite interesting…

Place 4. The sheds… if you look on the map in place 3, to the east you will see a round about, which is not far from where the aircraft cross the road. Go across where the planes cross the road, and you will come to another round about, take the 3rd exit and on the right hand side of you in this road are the sheds… great spotting place… but only good when the planes are landing!

OK Thanks Andrew, I’ve got up until Saturday night so won’t be too late.

Be interested to hear whats happening to the viewing area.

I’ve tried Martyle Avenue (hatton cross) but I’m not keen on approach spots so we’ll see. May stay on top of one of the car parks for 1/2 hour or so, won’t have long anyway.

Thanks again for the info!

One of 4 depending on which way they are landing?

1. Hatton cross tube station — outside. Great for landing only.

2. Esso Station. —- Good spot for seeing the aircraft line up for take off.

3. The west end of the perimeter road. —- Great for when the aircraft are landing, very close to them here indeed!

4. The sheds. — Just around the corner from where the aircraft “cross the road” to go into the airport. Excellent spot for watching them land.

Dan, I email Baa last night, regarding the viewing roof. I hope to get a reply soon.

I will post maps of all the above places later on this evening, I hope that wont be to late?

Cheers mate. 🙂
