Mistake in last ed. of Airliner World!

Hello,

there is a painful mistake in the newest edition of A.W. – the spotting story about Las Palmas!

The airport descibed in the story is definitely not Las Palmas (GCLP / LPA)! It is La Palma (GCLA / SPC)!

I know that for sure, because I have been on the island of La Palma for three times and the photos in the report are made on the Airport SPC and the description tells the same!

I have a site with tips on SPC spotting running on the net – the adress is http://www.spottinglinks.de/spottingspc.htm

If you compare the pictures linked on that site to those printed in the new A.W. you will be convinced, though some of the pictures are not accessable because of the crash of planepictures.net.

I hope, that Airliner World will correct this mistake in their next edition.

Best regards from Germany
Dietmar

I have quite often thought about posting something about this matter for quite a while but didn’t want to get accused of victimisation! I usually find a few technical and operational errors in each issue which make me bite my teeth somewhat. However it is still a great read and in the UK at least it is great value for money (especially as my mate pays my subscription as my Christmas present!).
Perhaps Webby can tell us if it gets proof read by anyone from the inside. If you need a proof reader from a technical perspective I could be tempted.

But, for me, it is important if photos are jumbled up:

We wouldn’t want someone new to aviation learning that a Boeing 747 was actually an ATR72 – the same example as you gave, someone that had never been the airports concerned.

Anyway, enough of that, welcome to the forum!

Hi,

of course people can make mistakes! For me it is not so important if two pics have been mixed – it can happen and lots of people will notice that immediately.

If a whole report like the “Las Palmas”-topic 😉 has got a totally wrong heading, that’s not so simple to realize for everyone.

Who never has been either to SPC or LPA will possibly not discover this mistake.

In this case I was so “shocked” because I know La Palma very well and I even made a website about it.

I just hope, they will correct it in the next edition…

In my opinion it was probably an error of the corrector – as we have been three times on this nice island La Palma (Airport “Santa Cruz de La Palma”) we often heard things like:

“Ahhh – you fly to Mallorca” (Palma de Mallorca)
“Hey, Teneriffa – that’s nice” (Santa Cruz de Tenerife)
“Gran Canaria – fine island” (Las Palmas)

So the corrector may have thought: “That’s an error of the writer, he meant Gran Canaria for sure” – and he corrected it without asking the writer – one can see the result in the last edition :p

Again, that can happen, no probs…

All the best from Germany again,

Dietmar

P.S.: I have been at CDG on Sunday – nice planes there – Tahiti Nui, AF Concorde (probably I have seen her for the last time 🙁 ), China Eastern 340, Emirates 773… Only the weather was awful!!

Yeah, I agree there. It’s just something I noticed this morning, and it fitted quite well with EDLW’s post thats all!

As the old saying goes, “People make mistakes!”. Not once Have I ever spotted a mistake in A.W. mag. But then again I don’t buy it just to pick out the mistakes, I buy it for the info and pictures provided.

On page 84 in the Mauritius article, an Air Austral ATR 72 and a British Airways are featured. The captions are the wrong way round!

It’s nice to point out the mistakes but we’re not here to evaluate their work and I really hope you didn’t just join the forum to tell us that.

Also has anyone looked carefully at the Heathrow double page foldout.
On the left hand side page you see aircraft lining up on 09R, and on the right hand side page you see aircraft lining up on 27R!
Presumably it’s two differrent photos.
