OK folks, Easters over so here’s the answer…

The type is a PZL MD12 built in Poland in 1959. Only 2 built and development stopped by the Soviet Union. I guess to ensure a ready market for their own products in Eastern Europe.

Mongu – I agree that Speedbird is a great callsign however they are frequently referred to in the trade as ‘birdseed’!

You’re close Andy, It’s not Soviet but was built in an East European country, in fact two of them were. Keep going!

Its funny there are only two airlines, well one now that I know use bird names, or are birdish related, BA and Airtours (used to be).

You’d think there would be more? Or perhaps not?

Anyone know anymore?

That is just the best call sign ever, Speedbird.

If I ever start an airline, that’s what I want to call it – Speedbird Airlines. I suppose I’d have to offer BA a wodge of cash to give up the callsign though!
