Playboy eyes up KLM stewardesses

AMSTERDAM — Ninety KLM air hostesses have applied to take part in a nude photo shoot planned by the Dutch edition of the Playboy men’s magazine.

The applications came after Playboy placed an advertisement in various morning newspapers, it was reported in newspaper Algemeen Dagblad on Friday. The nude spread of the Dutch flag carrier’s staff will feature in the magazine’s July issue.

Playboy said that in the current harsh economic climate, it wanted to give back to KLM the lustre that it had earned.

Editor Paul Koopal said he is extremely pleased with the amount of reactions the magazine has received from the advertisement.

This is the second stunt Playboy has pulled to highlight the 20 anniversary of the Dutch edition. The magazine has already released a survey which claims that 30 percent of Dutch people cheat on their partners.

While Playboy no doubt will be happy with the publicity and the opportunity to lift its sales, KLM is unlikely to be as enthusiastic.

Following the accounting scandals at several large corporations in AMerica, the US edition of Playboy hit on the idea of the Women of Enron spread, to “showcase current and former employees of the ruined Houston energy company”.

KLM — like the rest of the gloabl airline industry — could do with a lift, but it certainly is not keen to give the impression it is going bust.
