BY 767-300ERs

Hi folks!

I wondered if anyone had travelled long haul on one of BY 763s?

I’m off on one in June and though I’ve travelled a fair bit, I’ve never actually flown on a 767 before.

I presume its a 2-4-2 config with no PTV’s? What’s BY’s service like long haul?

I’ve checked out Jethro’s page on BY’s fleet and it looks like most 763’s are on sub-lease; is this still the case or are they back now for the summer season?

Do all BY 763’s have long-haul functionality or are some aircraft specifically kept for high density Med runs?

All your comments welcome…..

According to MAN and LGW airports own statistics JMC/TCX have been the most cosistant top placed charter airline (and considerably higher than most scheduled airlines including BA) for the last year. Excel tried to change the definitions that the statistics were based on recently intheir favour but nobody else seemed to be interested. Condor is currently being reorganised to follow the TCX operational model.

For punctuality, they all claim to be the best just about. Excel Airways have made claims about having a rather low average delay time.

Thanks everyone….

I’ve checked out some of the flight reviews and BY’s service levels appear to have dipped somewhat. I noticed that my flight with them last year wasn’t as good as it used to be. I remember a time when BY were the king of charters with AMM being a close second. Who is top now then?

Plus can anyone add anything about the 763s current liveries/positioning. Jethro’s site suggests many are still on sub-lease. Is this still the case?

That is correct Michael, 905 is LHR-LAX via JFK, however there is an aircraft change in there. For instance, UA 815 is ORD-SYD via LAX. The ORD-LAX portion is usually a 757 or an A320 or something. They LAX-SYD portion is always a 744. Very freqently do you see aircraft changes on a particular flight number, as long as it’s done at an airlines’ hub airport.

Really? I flew flight 905 from Heathrow and was under the impression that the flight was going to Los Angeles via New York, so it would be the same aircraft.

Actually T5, even the LAX-JFK portion of those flights are operated by a 767. I took flight 905 from JFK-LAX my 2nd to last trip to N.Y., and it was definitely a 767, and it was the 2nd leg originating in London. Just because it’s the same flight number, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the same aircraft.

The main concern with Britannia amongst travellers is the seat pitch(!!) – I’ve not shut up about seat pitch lately. One woman talks about how she could not take the brace position, as being pointed out by the crew, due to the fact that the seat in front was just too close to her.

Other than the size of the seats though, they are a good airline.

Most of these people don’t agree with you T5. As I dont agree with them… I have had no problems EVER! with Britannia. A great airline! 🙂

Pembo, the first passenger opinion at the moment on this link page is someone that has just done a LGW-CANCUN-LGW flight.

Unless of course you fly to LAX-JFK or JFK-LAX on the London route which is a 777-200 🙂

I was searching on Airliners.net for G-OBYI, the only aircraft registration I can remember of the 763s I have flown with Britannia. I don’t know how many of their 763s (maybe all of them) are painted in the blue scheme, but G-OBYI has been…

When we flew this aircraft in the summer of 2001 it was in the navy blue and white scheme. My infamous picture which you should have all seen at least 1,000 times by now shows so…

But, have a great holiday. Quite a trek to Mexico, but you’ll have fun on the flight, Britannia Airways are great and have won many awards for their service.

I flew on one of NZ’s 762’s last summer, and they were in very good condition. I fly on UA’s all the time and those are in equally good condition. UA’s LAX-JFK routes are run exclusively by 762’s. For them to use that aircraft on a very prestigious route, they have to hold them in pretty hard regard. In fact, my favourite seat in any aircraft, ever, is a business class seat in a UA 762.

They must be nearing retirement age though?

I know ANZ are looking to replace their 762s.

I flew BY B763 on Weds! – reports still to come – no PTVS but immaculate a/c G-OBYD – only been repainted and refurbished less than a month i believe! It was a sub a/c which i was a little dissapointed as i was hoping to fly my last B762 G-OBYB – i’ve done all the rest!

Fairly comfortable nevertheless

The B762s are also pritty good for there age!

I’ve been on a 767 but it wasn’t a packed out aircraft with toursts in. It was very nice and spacious, although a grey colour of seat was a little nasty.

I have flown 2 return transatlantic flights with Britannia on a 767-300 (Orlando Sanford and La Romana, Dominican Republic) and a short haul to Girona on the 767-200.

I don’t know if you saw the seat pitch information I posted the other day, but Britannia was on it’s own at the bottom, offering just 28″ in their economy class.

Britannia certainly has the best in-flight services I have experienced on charter airlines. We were well fed, punctuality is great, staff were extremely friendly for the duration of the flight and the aircraft was particularly clean.

The 767-300s of Britannia hold either 315 or 328 passengers, so you’re a bit packed in, but it’s a pleasant flight and I seem to remember the entertainment, both on the radio and on the TVs were good, too. Unfortunately, not personal TVs on their aircraft, but you do get a handheld DVD player in their first class cabin. But this is standard for most airlines, as you probably know, only the MyTravel A330s have this feature.

I’m sure you’ll have great fun, I certainly did!

By the way, where are you flying to?

And Kabir – I agree with the United 767s, they were without a doubt the best I’ve been on!

I flew a BY 763 in 1997 but it was only to Majorca. It was used on this route because it was the May half term and the flight was full. Service was excellent, food average and flight good.

Was a night flight on the outward journey, and a day flight on the return.
