Not quite Airliner territory this but a Royal Navy Sea King has been flying in a loop over Glasgow city centre and my end of the city for the last 15 minutes (Friday 2015). Anyone know why this might be ?
They sometimes fly injured mountain climbers into the nearby Southern General hospital but it’s making no attempt to land there.
Any clues ?

Hmmm…. that’s a possibility Bhoy ? 5 mins after I posted it headed off in the direction of Glasgow Airport, don’t know if it landed there but I never saw it come back over. Presumably it went straight back to HMS Gannet after that.
The pattern it was flying looked like they’d taken it out for a joyride and the pilot was letting his mate have a go ! (lol)

Couldn’t be anything to do with Glasgow playing Embra at Hughenden?
I was up there for two games in December, and both times the match ball was flown in by Royal Navy SeaKing.
Having said that, kickoff was scheduled for 7:30, so it was probably a bit late for that…

presumably from Prestwick – there might have been a new crew on a swap from a differant NAS training for the hossie or local area?

Practicing landing at the hospital perhaps? Or having to deal with increased flight traffic around Glasgow maybe. Probably just a familiarisation flight. I’ve seen Sea Kings flying over Leeds before, doing pretty much the same thing you described.
