USAirways emerges from Ch. 11

I saw on the news this morning, that USAirways has emerged from Ch. 11 Bankrupcy protection. I don’t have a link to the news briefing but; among other things, pilot pension was replaced with a cheaper one, route structure was reduced by 4% and employee benfits were deferred. This is tremendous news, and hopefully their partners, United will follow suit.

Does anyone know if the ERJ family (-135 to -190) have commonality a la A320 family?

As I have said, the Embraer 170 and 175s are most likely to be US Airways main choice and will probably be ran mainline. Based on Greekdude’s analysis on what the airlines are doing, I think this strategy is a pretty good idea and is somewhat near US Airways’ former operational status in the early 1990s and will make probably some operations more viable compared with your average 737 or A320.

They have both CRJ’s and ERJ’s in their fleet currently. I think the trend over here is for all the majors to utilize more RJ’s in their route structure, subject to union approval, of course. UA after 9/11 changed many of their 1+ hour west coast flights from 737’s to CRJ’s operated by United Express.

Definately good news. One of the other things I heard on the news today is that part of US Airways plan is to invest “heavily” in acquiring regional jets. Anyone have any bets as to which manufacturer they will end up chosing?

Haha…My ability to spell is debatable. I was thinking of checking the sentence on Word as it didn’t make sense to me, but I did not want to risk crashing my computer while loading it up.
Though who knows, nothing is set in stone yet, maybe they will object and not join star in the end 😀

Excellent news. With new management and a new strategy I hope the future is bright for US with so much uncertainty looming in aviation across the world. Hopefully Star will be their next big objection.

Positive news – a bit unexpected given the Iraqi situation, but good all the same.
