JMC 757's in Cancun ???

Last November, I spent a couple of weeks in Cancun, Mexico. To the best of my knowledge, the only JMC flights to Cancun at that time were one from Gatwick (Sun) and one from Manchester (Mon) both using A332s.

Yet on two ocassions, I looked up and saw a JMC 757 (both around 10 – 11 am ish) which doesn’t fit in with a UK – Caribbean timetable, of arriving mid afternoon and departing back to the U.K. late afternoon. They definitely weren’t the direct flights in disguise because I saw the JMC A332 everday they were supposed to be there.

I am 100% certain it was a JMC 757 – the aircraft were that low. So, what were they doing there? Were they using CUN as a re-fuelling stop? Were they operating flights on behalf of another airline? Can anyone enlighten me on this because I really couldn’t think of an answer at the time and I’m still struggling to find one now.

Thanks evetone.

There’s not many aircraft left in the old green scheme so it’s been almost solely blue for a while now.

Pembo – I’m LGW based but occasionally I do the odd flight from any of the bases. I was up in NCL not far from you a few weeks back.
My most scary experience was a few weeks back when the boiler in the front galley failed and their was a serious delay to my tea!

If I remember correctly, he’s based at LGW, and before joining JMC, he flew Saab 340’s for Aurigny in the Channel Islands. And before that, he was cabin crew on Virgin A340’s.

Fascinating! Are you based out of Manchester? Have you always flown 757’s?

A really daft question now; when all us are sat in the back ‘enjoying’ a really bumpy flight – do you ever get nervous/scared; if so whats you worst experience been?

Thanks wysiwyg – that explains it perfectly.

I assume from your reply you work for JMC/TCX – forgive my ignorance (I’m still trying to get to know people here) – what do you do for them?

We rotate crews through Milwaukee and Detroit with aircraft on winter basings there (G-JMCD and G-JMCE) doing contract wotk for Apple Vacations operating to Cancun and the Carribean. There’s also the odd A320 here and there in the states every winter. You’ll also find us in other parts of the world in winter doing short wet leases. Fortunately it’s voluntary so we’re not forced into it but there are loads of guys that haven’t been in the airlines for long that are desperate to go away.

I used to fly with a guy who would spend about 3 months in a year down that way and even further into south america on charters for the airline he flys/flew for.
