I don’t mean to start a “my alliance is better than yours” kerfuffle, but I noticed the other week that BA do not allow you to claim miles for oneworld flights online. You had to send a fax to them, enclosing a copy of your boarding pass.
I had taken a single very cheap flight on Aer Lingus about 6 months ago, which I forgot all about until I found a mangled ticket stub in my sock drawer – so hence the claim.
What are the other alliances like for this? I was a bit disappointed at this lack of customer service from BA, who claim to be a senior partner of oneworld.

From India if i goto other parts in Asia etc. i would definately take Star Alliance because of amount of routes it offers, I would even take Star Alliance from India if SAS hadent withdrawn service, from India to Europe i would take OneWorld. Overall i would go for Star.

If I were to use an alliance it would solely be based on which airline serves my local airport best and that is BA (Although I suppose it could easily enough be Skyteam through BE). Though each alliance has its own bonuses for connecting passengers from place to place like Star across the Atlantic and Oneworld in the Oceanic regions. To be honest it would just depend on circumstances.
I wouldn’t believe the ratings too much through Skytrax, but generally you probably could conclude that Oneworld has better quality airlines than others alliances, however, Star offers more connections through more partners. Depends what you want really.

BA really annoyed me last year when I flew them from YYZ to LHR. My fare didn’t qualify for points as it wasn’t high enough, and yes, the service (on the phone) was terrible. Isn’t this supposed to be a loyalty scheme??
I’ve dealt with Star online via AC. Very easy really. I think the only glitch was one flight had no more Aeroplan seats left. Otherwise very good.

I always booked my “miles” free tickets on the phone with United.
They are flexible and responsive.
I booked our last vacation last summer in January. Unfortunately one leg wasn’t available from CDG. They booked us from Munich.
I was told that they would change it if some change was made in the booking or the schedule.
2 weeks later I received a mail that we were booked from Brussels.
10days later an additional flight had been added to sfo via Washington and we got our news reservation.
That’s all what I can say … they are good and …… bankrupt!!

dunno… can’t say I’ve tried retro claiming with any alliances online.
Only time I’ve used it was when Qualiflyer was still around to claim a SN flight, but as Qualiflyer was SN’s program too (as well as SR), I don’t think it made any difference.
However, I don’t think that other alliances allow you to retroclaim online, either.
Only time I’ve retroclaimed outwith the principal airline was for a hotel, and there’s no online facilities for that, anyway.
