Which colour scheme would you like to see again?

Which colour scheme would you like to see back on the fuselage of an aircraft. E.g, Braniff/caledonian etc.

I would love to see Caledonian c/s again even if it was for just a few seconds. Also I would like to see the Ecutoriana again.

Clearly the old BA scheme was far better than the current one. It gave a sense of elegance. However a livery I would like to see again is this one on the pic… great livery for its time

I checked the reg of the a/c that Elation Airways posted, it susbsequently operated for Airtours for a year as G-JANM, and then was transferred to the Danish registry.

This one – the best that British Airways had – very smart looking, much better than current one and better than previous one which just said “British”.
I also like the colour scheme in Frank’s posting – the best one that Sabena ever had.

Yes, I think the A320 is a difficult aeroplane for a colour scheme to look good on but Excalibur did it very well.

I think it would have to be the Excalibur livery of the mid-ninties. Fantastic royal purple!

A Court Line A340 would be great as would a 747-400 in the old blue and gold BOAC speedbird colours. An A321 in the BEA red square livery and finally an A340-600 in Caledonian.

I must agree with the Manx c/s…would be nice to see the original again (not that jazzed up BA version). The Manx livery on the Jetstream 41-Brilliant!
I would also like to see Aurigny have a standard livery throughout the whole fleet like they used.

I don’t know if there is any correlation between those 2. Juan Trippe having resigned is a pivotal move in Pan Am history, albeit a negative one. Trippe was instumental in designing of the 747 in which Pan Am was the launch customer, and to a lesser extent the 707, in which again Pan Am was again the launch customer. Pan Am was one of the original airlines to fly around the world, plus serve nearly every continent. They never had a huge domestic network to feed into their international network. Back in the day, it didn’t matter much. Once ‘deregulation’ came around and the advent of the hub-and-spoke system, they were pretty much screwed. They started selling off key routes, and that was that. Delta got their European routes(except LHR) and their Kennedy hub. United got their pacific routes, and Heathrow slots. American got their Latin American routes. End of story.

Yup, I always respond quickly when I’m meant to be studying! My carpets and skirting boards are never cleaner than when revision looms!

Do you think there is any correlation between the move to a “billboard” scheme and the oft-mentioned slow decline of Pan Am? From what I know, it was a great airline until Juan Tripp resigned as CEO and then they slowly lost their way.

Mongu, thank you, it has been a while. I had to go into the basement for a while. As Michael Corleone once said, “Just when I thought I was out………..they pull me back in!” I noticed you initially put checkerboard on there. Pan Am had 2 basic liveries. The earlier one had a blue cheatline with smaller ‘Pan Am’ titles written in black. Around the late 70’s/early 80’s, they ditched the cheatline in favor of large ‘Pan Am’ titles along the side of the fuselage in blue font. This was frequently refered to as the “billboard” scheme.

P.S. That was a very quick response on your part, mate!

Hi GD – welcome back

What do you mean by “billboard” livery?

TWA livery with the red tail and and the 2 red stripes is one of my all-time favorites. Also the Pan Am Billboard livery. I also agree with Binx on the Proud Wings livery. Clearly one of the greatest “temporary” liveries of all time.

I’d like to see Loganair colours back in the skies. Yet another airline given the BA franchise treatment.
