AirlinerWorld March 2003

Well I recieved my copy today and it is of an exceptional quality yet again. News was again informative and helpful and also the articles were on generally interesting topics.
I very much enjoyed the articles on Flybe. which was enjoyable because it gave a very indepth look at the airlines plans, history, operations etc that you are not always aware of. The Guernsey article was a complete surprise to me, I was astounded when I saw it! There were a few minor errors but nothing really incorrect.

Also I noticed that if you look in the Flybe. 2003 route maps you will see JER-LHR and JER-CDG routes. Either this is an error or there is something they are not telling us because they do not to my knowldege exist.

Your opinions?

I’m doubtful Flybe. could actually produce a lucrative market between Southampton and Northern France. The French airports of Dinard and Caen are far too small and really in regions, which are far too sparsely populated to actually get the number of passengers needed to make the route profitable. Moreover, when I go to France it is normally in car, which is much easier plus a lot more rewarding. One would think it would be the same for most the South Coast of the UK.

i agree…

Southampton is a lucraive market – i rekon that a few direct routes to x channel dests like Caen and Dinard direct on a jet or Q400 may also be worth looking into -as th mag says Fly Be could either make or break Soton

Yup the 146 and the Q400. I have been down to Malaga on a 146 and it ain’t that bad. Buzz pulling out of BOU is quite good for Flybe, now they can have a much larger catchement area.

RE: AirlinerWorld March 2003

I found the FlyBe article really interesting. I didn’t realise the airline was pronounced as Fly Bee, because of their IATA code (BE) , I thought it was pronounced Fly B E. I didn’t realise they lost so much money last year – I hope they break – even as planned.

Flybe have announced today 3 new routes from Southampton:

Murcia – Daily
Malaga – Daily
Toulouse – Daily

Services will start on 19th May 2003.These services will join new services to Jersey, Dublin, Milan Bergamo, Geneva and Belfast City. Currently only Guernsey is served but at the end of this year, flybe plans to operate 11 routes out of Southampton with Barcelona and Nice suppossed to start in October 2003.

It was the best quality magazine yet. The grpahics were good and the articles very well written. Sad to see an end to Aviaiton Charts section – maybe how to maintain you A320 aircraft course next?

I wish…
