RE: Pic of the day-A faster Hammer and Sickle!
True true. My passion has always been Soviet/Russian military hardware, I spend most of my time on the AFM board (when it works, of course!). But I can’t resist joining in on a thread featuring one of the most historically significant civil airliners of all time-Tupolev’s Tu-144 CHARGER. Too bad it doesn’t feature more often over here!

RE: Pic of the day-A faster Hammer and Sickle!
One of the greatest things about my short time in this forum is the people I have now come across who like myself enjoy and have an interest in Soviet/Russian types. But then again I guess that’s what a good forum is all about!

RE: Pic of the day-A faster Hammer and Sickle!
Flight testing using the re-engined RA-77114 concluded in 1999. Rumor has it that the aircraft has been sold and will be flown (!) to the USA for display. As for the re-engining, the original (77114 was a D model) RD-36-51 engines were replaced with NK-321’s as used in Tupolevs other supersonic enormity, the Tu-160.
I have accumulated a massive amount of info on these fascinating aircraft over the years, definitely my favorite civil type.

Yes they are,I understand that this programme is still ongoing but I don’t know anything about how useful this exercise has been. Anyone else know?

Weren’t Boeing or Nasa using one recently for exploratory work ? What became of those tests, did they prove useful for future SST types ?

Well spotted wys. I thought the downward control surfaces were just the result of a lazy pilot!

Depressurise the hydraulics and all the elevons lose out to gravity.

Just looking at it scares me! I think it’s the way the back just appears to be dragging along the floor!

Great pic, now that is the only aircraft that we don’t see or hear anything about on here the TU-144! Like you said…what could have been.
