RE: The GE90-115B!
The ground clearence is quite ok i think…the flex of the engines on take-off will give another inch or two.

RE: The GE90-115B!
When fitted to the 777 it will have more than 9″ ground clearance. They will probably use the same technique they employed to squeeze the CFM under a 737 wing by using a pylon that primarily goes forward.

RE: The GE90-115B!
I have done my own bit of graphic design, prepare to be blown away. Matthew Murray step aside..!!
I figured they could attach a set of wheels to the jumbo engine, then it wouldn’t scrape along the ground which I have done here using a top graphics program, commonly referred to as MS Paint..!! 😀 😀 😀 Enjoy!

RE: The GE90-115B!
Take a look at this pic of the B777-300ER. http://www.airliners.net/Airliners_net_image.file?filename=5/1/5/294515…
Now I’m not sure if the engines on the 300 are the ones in question, but if they are you can clearly see that there is more than 9inches clearance.

RE: The GE90-115B!
any idea how much clrnce there will b on the B773ER? – it can’t go into commercial ops with only 9 inchs clearance can it?

RE: The GE90-115B!
They look too big for any aircraft, but its probably as you say it looks wierd next to a smaller engine. Matt, thats an interesting concept you have there 😛

RE: The GE90-115B!
I read a report on this a couple of months back. If I remember rightly there is 9 inches clearance so they don’t start it up until they get lined up on the runway (otherwise too much foreign object ingestion while taxiing). They take off using the 3 original engines and the GE90 at idle otherwise the thrust would be too asymetric and unmanageable.

RE: The GE90-115B!
Lets hope there’s no crosswind when it lands! Looks like there is only a couple of feet of clearence from that amazingly huge engine.
Regards
Luke

RE: The GE90-115B!
it’s a lot of weight to haul with only 2 engines – hence those awesome buggers!

RE: The GE90-115B!
It will look good and bloody give awsome power to the B773ER…alreadt that a/c is so long.

RE: The GE90-115B!
That’s huge and looks a little odd, but that’s probably because we are seeing it on a four engined aircraft along with two smaller engines. But if it’s going to improve the performance of an aircraft, it’s great!
Nice picture too Matt.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-01-03 AT 09:53 AM (GMT)]Dammit !!!! He stroke again !!! 🙂
Jesus was multiplying bread and fish , Mat is multiplying engines !!!
Any idea about the clearance between the bottom of the thing and the ground ?
