Another Flight Report

Let me know if this is getting tedious, but I’m still searching for a good way to write these things! Anyway…

IOM-LGW flight BA4325 (departing 14:10) aircraft BAe 146-200 reg G-MIMA

LGW-IOM flight BA4328 (departing 19:25) aircraft BAe 146-200 reg G-MIMA

I took a daytrip to Gatwick today. The purpose was to take my fiance to Heathrow for her onward flight to Melbourne on flight QF10. She’s a nervous flyer, hence the escort for the first leg!

I paid £26 for the flight (the taxes) as the fare element of the ticket was free, courtesy of cashing in some BA miles.

Firstly, interesting experience packing the other day. The baggage allowance with BA is 32kg per passenger, but Qantas only allow a very stingy 20kg. Managed to get it all checked in no probs however.

Both flights were on time (well, within 5 or 10 minutes anyway). The 146 still has the poor 6-abreast seating but legroom is OK I suppose. Inflight service consisted of a drink and pretzels, followed by a sandwich and tea/coffee in the “all day deli” style. At least the food was handed out and not put in a doggy bag!

Not much else to say – very uneventful journey to be honest. Sometimes the IOM flights connect to a jetty at Gatwick and sometimes they don’t. However the stand used nearly always has a spare jetty. I wonder what the criteria is for whether the airline/airport decides to make use of a jetty? It seems jetty use is banned in the rain!

RE: Another Flight Report

It depends on the set up of the stand. Some stands are large enough to cope with a 747 so the jetty may not be able to lower down far enough to reach the door on a 146. Alternatively the jetty may be unserviceable so the stand gets assigned to types that have their own steps.
