BRITISH Airways is expanding its Manchester services with three new routes on the back of reporting an overall rise in December traffic of 5.9 per cent.
The routes will be announced on Wednesday and will increase BA’s capacity at Ringway.
BA saw passenger numbers on scheduled flights rise by 5.9 per cent to 2.9m during the busy festive period with many Britons heading for warmer climates.
UK and European traffic rose 6.2 per cent to 1.9m and flights to America – depressed after the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001 – soared by 10.8 per cent to 561,000, while traffic to the Middle East increased by five percent.
The only fall in passenger numbers came from flights to the Asia Pacific – down 13.8 per cent where BA has cut some of its routes.
But BA has revised its profits forecast as global economic conditions continue to produce a tough trading environment. Revenue for December was down 3.4 per cent overall.
“The global economic environment continues to be difficult and as a result, trading conditions are challenging. As previously forecast, revenue for the financial year will be down versus last year,” the company said in a statement.

RE: BA announce new routes from Manchester
As usual concentration on hubs and lack of interests in regional markets, in fact the fastest growing ones after low cost. The reasos is obvious, lower costs, concentration of resources, savings in crews and planes…..and so on, despite many markets want regional alternatives. In the UK, Eastern Airways, with a massive growth is just getting the BA crumpets and making huge profits. BA should realize that Liverpool is close to MAN, going back (not only to IOM) and don´t let Easyjet to get all the cake. And in any case, I am glad for Manchester Airport.

I think BMI are also launching daily flights to Tolouse from Manchester, using an EMB 145.
