UK Charters go to Garuda?

Some of you may remember when I postd my flight report last April after flying with Airtours (now MyTravel) on Boeing 767-300 G-DIMB from Jamaica.

I mentioned at the time that the aircraft was actually wearing a different livery – definitely not it’s own and in the end, I managed to establish it was Garuda Indonesia.

After looking on Airliners.net, I’ve been looking at photos of this aircraft and I notice it is flying for Garuda at the moment, although not wearing the same livery as it had last April… why do they have it again? What’s the big event?

RE: UK Charters go to Garuda?

There has been a lot of repair work completed under warranty on both our 330 airframes.

I can think of worse places to spend my life – UK springs to mind!

EGNM- I read somewhere that one of the 330’s, G-OJMB I think, had quite a few tech problems when it first entered service and they weren’t exactly happy (no one would be). Maybe it has something to do with this, but its funny if JMC are unhappy with an aircraft most airlines are very happy with!

RE: UK Charters go to Garuda?

yea seems a bit of a shame, but thats long haul! – cud b worse – i felt for the poor AIH crew in the 752 all the way to Cancun via Canada – even more so i think for the pax on it, or a 763 to aussie – ouch!!

RE: UK Charters go to Garuda?

Oh I see what you mean! I don’t really know what vibe is going round HQ at the moment with regard to the 330 but the funny thing is that it is currently proving to be a bit of an unpopular fleet. I think the honeymoon is over as far as the flight crew are concerned in that they have played with the new toy just long enough to now be a bit fed up with spending most of their lives in the Domincan Republic/Orlando/Tobago/Cancun/Cuba/Barbados,etc!

RE: UK Charters go to Garuda?

EGNM – we had heard the opposite! Garuda were supposed to prefer the 330 to the 767 as it could make the return trip to Solo City without a tech stop. At one time they asked us to provide 3, which would have been interesting bearing in mind we only have 2!

Haj is a very busy time..as they have to fly huj flights plus the normal scheduled flights. AI takes its Haj a/c from Kampuchean airlines.

RE: UK Charters go to Garuda?

RE: UK Charters go to Garuda?

The Hadj has been a bit of an on/off affair this year. First we were going then we weren’t. We aren’t sending either of the 330’s this year but I know the company are currently looking for 30 pilots to volunteer for a months basing in Beirut (more Hadj work) so I am currently lying very low…

RE: UK Charters go to Garuda?

to be fair for a hybrid it look pritty gud as the colours between the old AIH and Garuda livery are very similar shades!

RE: UK Charters go to Garuda?

When I flew on G-DIMB, it only had the eagle’s head on the tail and not the Garuda text plus it was dark – If Airtours had not had a 3 and a half hour delay, I would have seen it in the light! The pic I posted from Airliners.net was taken on 21 December I think and that doesn’t feature the image on the tail, so that has been added in the last 2 weeks or so.

Anyway, thanks for all the information you’ve provided.

I was at MAN yesterday and saw 1 Britannia 767 and 2 Airtours in Garuda titles, including G-DIMB (Picture below).

RE: UK Charters go to Garuda?

Britannia currently have 3 a/c out there (all B763, G-OBYC/E/F) and AIH have their B763 fleet (G-DIMB/DAJC/SJMC) out there, most of the UK based air atlanta fleet is out in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia flying Hadj with it’s a/c in FULLL saudi c/s (hence most a/c over the summer have planin white fuselage and green tails), as has the European B742 G-BDXJ – JMC sent the A330 last year but i understand this isn’t happening this year

RE: UK Charters go to Garuda?

Britannia had a 767-300 wearing “Garuda Indonesia” titles at Manchester the other day, I presume also for the Haj.

RE: UK Charters go to Garuda?

That is a major reason Garuda pulled off the European flights, they knew they could make more money on the Hadj flight.

RE: UK Charters go to Garuda?

it’s on Hadj flights.

flying muslims to Mecca, about the same time every year…

there’s a fair few Airlines, mainly SE Asia/Middle East lease a/c this time of year for the pilgrims.
