Superstitions also happen in airlines. No 13 row in any Iberia plane. Any other airline with no row 13?. It seems that passengers are sensitive to these nonsenses and “evil” number.

The RAF issue their crews with clothing made of natural fibres (safer in the event of fire) that leave no exposed skin.

RE: Superstition in airlines
I have read about pilots wearing gloves because some of the buttons on the aircraft tend to become rather hot especially on the older aircraft. Also in hotter countries the aircraft can become hot. Therefore, to protect their hands, the pilots wear gloves.
Other than that, one would think wearing gloves in the cockpit would be a sign of professionalism 😉

RE: Superstition in airlines
how do u mean protection from burns – in case of an inflight fire or if they happened to get a missile into their backsides?

RE: Superstition in airlines

RE: Superstition in airlines
I had row 13 on a britannia flight from LGW – TLS and I had the other two seats in that row to myself, I would have to say it was a good number to have on this flight !!!

RE: Superstition in airlines
I would not brand this superstition, but Japanese pilots wear white gloves on landing and takeoff. In Japan and Asia, white is a symbol of purity and so wearing white gloves is a sort of good luck icon.

My dog was spayed on Friday 13th of December and the vets made a complete hash of it. She had to be reopened 10 days later because they stiched her wrong! Friday 13th I kind of believe in as bad because of this but any other “spooky sh#t” I think is stupid and only for old witches!

RE: Superstition in airlines
I’m not too sure about the whole row thirteen thing but I do know that Westjet (low fare Canadian airline) refuses to end any of its tail numbers with the number ‘4’. The employees that I’ve talked to have said it is because there is a history of accidents with airplanes that had ‘4’ in their tail numbers although none of them could offer anything more specific. Does anybody happen to know anything about unlucky number 4?

RE: Superstition in airlines
Personally I do like the number 13 as my mother, my daughter and myself are born on the 13th. Do not get this row 13 crap, start counting when you enter the airplane and one thing for sure:
there is no free space where you would expect row 13!
Just might be called row 14.

Next these airlines won’t be flying when the 13th day of the month falls on a Friday – crazy!

What about Japanese planes ? number 3 is unlucky in Japan. When Panasonic upgraded it’s digital broadcast tape format “M2”, it became “M4” for that very reason. I suppose they could keep going until it becomes “M25” ! that would be really unlucky! (lol)

I checked the SWISS timetable last night, they don’t have row 13 either. so far, the only airline I can find that I’ve flown in row 13 in is a UA 757.

RE: Superstition in airlines
American West don’t offer a row 13. I think not offering row 13 is getting old. In the past airlines did not offer row 13 seats, but have since decided to throw superstition to the wind.

RE: Superstition in airlines
lol – fair enough reason not to have a row 13 wys!

RE: Superstition in airlines
You’re right Dan, Virgin don’t have row 13. Aurigny don’t have row 13 on the Saab but that’s because there are only 11 rows anyway!

RE: Superstition in airlines
BA Concorde’s don’t have a row 13…
think there were some other BA a/c that didn’t, but haven’t deen cabin layouts for a while, so unsure…
But I have flown in row 13 before, think it was either a SWISS MD83, or possibly an Air France 737-500.

RE: Superstition in airlines
Some of the British airlines leave out row 13. I can remember flying the other year and seeing some of our party in row 12 and some in row 14 and I made the comment that we wasn’t going to be together, but there was no row 13, so we were. It may have been May last yesr so it would have been Virgin.
Don’t beleive in this sort of crap myself, so I don’t know why they do it.
