Ukrainian Plane Crashes in Iran

“A Ukrainian passenger plane carrying aerospace experts crashed in Iran on Monday killing all 46 people on board, the Iranian transport minister said. Iranian television said the passengers were senior Ukrainian aircraft industry officials traveling to the Iranian city of Isfahan to test a new plane. “All 46 passengers including the crew have been killed. I am very sorry,” Transport Minister Ahmad Khorram told Reuters in Islamabad.”

Only the wing structure seems a little same with the 235.

RE: Ukrainian Plane Crashes in Iran

I can definitely see hints of other aircraft in the AN-140…maybe the CASA/IPTN 235?

You are right…looks way better than ATR. Ukraine in recent times has put up good standards to aviation safet.

RE: Ukrainian Plane Crashes in Iran

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-12-02 AT 07:49 AM (GMT)]I think it’s much prettier than the ATR. While I have no info as to the actual cause of the crash, these aircraft are often operated by regions that are notorious for training standards that are far inferior to what we enjoy, where Crew/Cockpit Resource Management is unheard of and cultural factors play a significant role (as per a previous thread). These factors are then mixed with high terrain and poor airfield/navigational facilities and it is the perfect recipe for disaster.

Although it does have similarities to the ATR I think the tail is Saab 340, the undercarriage is one four sick, the wing is Dornier 328 and the fuselage is a hint of a big Bandeirante.

I like the look of it.

I think it has an ATr 42’s body. A CRJ 200’s nose and a wierd forehead!!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-12-02 AT 03:02 PM (GMT)]The accident looks like pilot error rather to do with maintance, which is a very common cause of accidents in this region of the world.
I don’t think this should dent the AN-140s reputation, however, it is extremely sad to see yet another crash of a CIS built aircraft, which could of been easily avoided.
Andrewm,
The AN-140 is a beautiful turboprop airliner designed for the commuter market of the CIS. An excellent replacement to the AN-24.

RE: Ukrainian Plane Crashes in Iran

Tragic news…

As I understand it, very few An-140s were actually built? And one of these aircraft actually came into Farnborough during the week of Farnborough International.
