A bmi A330 enroute from Chicago O’Hare (ORD) to Manchester (MAN) on the evening of Saturday 30th November had reports of smoke in the cabin from passengers approximately 2 hours into the flight. The Captain diverted the aircraft to the nearest airport which was Moncton, Canada. The A330 made an emergency landing here and all passengers were taken to hotels in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The aircraft remained in Moncton for approximately 20hrs while engineers inspected it. The aircraft was then postioned from Moncton to Halifax. Passengers were then trasported to Halifax Airport and reboarded for the flight back to Manchester which landed approximately 0400 GMT this morning.
As a result of the chaos, BD701 (MAN-IAD) was cancelled on the morning of Sunday 1st December as bmi’s second A330 had been used to operate MAN-ORD. The inbound flight, BD702 (IAD-MAN) has been operated by United Airlines on the evening of Sunday 1st December.

Not sure if any of the 2 SAA aircraft have been ferried to Jo’burg yet. One is definately painted though. I understand the MAN-IAD service finishes this week anyway, so that will make the 2nd SAA aircraft available.
