RE: Pic Of The Day-Maybe if he stands on stilts?
Yes, Russian airframes have generally been pretty good but let down by poor engine design. That’s why I was so impressed when you told me you can get a Tu204 with RB211’s.

Well I never knew that!
Is it just an engine thing (not that I want to dis Russky engines) ? If so there would seem to be possibilities for export sales if it were re-engined with something like a GE90 or a Trent ?

I love watching them but they are a nightmare to operate around. Before take off they have to run at 50% thrust for 2 minutes and then at take off thrust for 2 minutes before brake release. This has to be done on the runway (to avoid blowing things away and in case of brake failure) so it occupies the runway for 4 minutes + the time taken to taxi onto the runway + the time to take off. It is a controllers nightmare. Looks like the mutts nuts though!

Great aircraft. If Boeing or Lockheed made it, the USAF would have hundreds flying around.

The Antonov 225 is currently the largest aircraft in the world according to a reliable source.
