Look at the link for the big picture, the winglet is indeed missing…

Hmm i dont think its there Pakistani because i guess you can see the parts of the wing where the winglets are attatched. Anyway the 744 can be flown without both the winglets…so can the new B737NGs.

Don’t know the actual facts about the Boeing but our company A330’s can operate with one wingtip missing but not both!!!
I can only imagine that this is the situation in the picture above but the same logic applies to the Boeing. i only discovered this after a MYT A330 hit a wingtip on a lighting pole in Paphos a few months ago and had to operate back with a tip missing.

Cool pic!, How come an aircraft is allowed to fly with an aerodynamic surface missing, since the winglets are designed to reduce drag won’t this wing will now generate slightly more drag than the other one, surely assymetric handling issues would arise from having a missing winglet?. Maybe Wysiwyg can clarify.

Regards, Dazza.

It happens, KabirT is acrtually an alright knid of guy! Wish more Indians and Pakistanis can be like him!

If you look at the pic VERY closely you will see the second winglet is still there, the only reason why it is not easily seen is that it is in fact painted in very dark colours and is against a dark background.

Winglets are easily ditatchable….even if they fly with one on…wont matter much.

What’s happened there- just damaged the winglet? – i presume it’s not part of the Minimum operation requirements to have an intact airframe!!
