Are Air Lib Express getting carried away?

Air Lib Express, the low fare arm of Air Lib, have recently aquired a DC-10 aircraft, which has been fully painted up in the Air Lib Express colour scheme.

My question is, are they getting carried away? By this I mean, is the aircraft to big — do they expect alot of passengers? Most low fare airlines use smaller aircraft (RyanAir and EasyJet, for example). Are Air Lib Express to do long haul flights?

As far as I know, they are currently using a single MD-80 aircraft and this DC-10 (pic below).

I think it was the other day that someone said something about a long haul low fare airline, and would it be a success? Well if Air Lib Express are to do long haul, we shall soon find out.

RE: Are Air Lib Express getting carried away?

Air Lib Express are using the DC-10’s on Routes to Fort – de – France in Martinique and Pointe-A-Pitre in Guadeloupe in the French Carribean. These 2 routes are extremely popular with the french tourists and Air France and Corsair always manage to fill up their daily 747-300 flights to these islands. I think Air Lib Express must have a lot more than just 1 MD-80 because they operate :

Paris Orly Sud – Figari up to 5 weekly flights
Paris Orly Sud – Marseille up to 4 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Nice up to 11 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Perpignan up to 5 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Tarbes Lourdes up to 2 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Toulon up to 5 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Toulouse up to 9 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Annecy up to 4 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Lannion up to 3 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Metz up to 4 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Biarritz up to 1 daily flight
Metz /Nancy – Nice up to 1 daily flight
Metz / Nancy – Toulouse up to 1 daily flight
Lille – Nice up to 1 daily flight
Lille – Marseille up to 1 daily flight
Nice – Toulouse up to 1 daily flight

Paris Orly Sud – Fort-De-France : 1 daily flight & 2 flights on thursday
Paris Orly Sud – Pointe-A-Pitre : 1 daily flight & 2 flights on saturday

Paris Orly Sud – Rome (Fiumicino) up to 3 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Milan (Malpensa-Terminal 2) up to 3 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Venise (Marco Polo) : 1 daily flight
Paris Orly Sud – Pise (Galileo Galilei) : 1 daily flight

I somehow think that this cannot be done with just 1 DC-10 and 1 MD-83!!!

If you look on Air Lib Express’ website, they seem to be transferring a lot of Air Lib Routes into Air Lib Express routes. All the above routes were former Air Lib routes except the new Italian services. I would also think that Air Lib will transfer their flights to Algeria, Libya, Cuba and La Reunion into low-cost flights very shortly.

I think these Carribean services could be very successful seeing as they are busy routes.

RE: Are Air Lib Express getting carried away?

Nah T5 – it’s just the way most airlines run off the Southwest idea wit say 737s or A320 – LOCO never have and wont next year OPERATE there own a/c- they ACMI lease twice a week at the Mo – ok Air Lib use their own planes – but if this a/c would otherwise be idel, and they hae enuff funding then y not give it a shot! – if Lufthansa can use (or used to) fly A300s from Frankfurt to heathrow several times a day with a high demand – Air Lib might decided to only offer one flight a day from one place to another – i.e. for pure example 3 differant shorthaul routes – Orly-Madrid, Orly-Berlin, Orly Amsterm, once each a day with the one plane, but each sector could be full if demand is there and the price is right for people to only have the inconveniance of this one flight a day ot a chosen destination

no offence was meant to b portrayed – just the way i express myself

Air Lib Express it is the first low-cost airline to try this concept across the Atlantic.Meals,non-alcoholic drinks and magazines/ newspapers are all free.Be interesting to see how it works out.

I do believe they have been using this aircraft, former Air Liberte for a while now.

EGNM – you seem to be taking too much offense to the opinion in which I have expressed. A330Crazy said “By this I mean, is the aircraft to big” and I felt that a DC-10 was not too big, with it being lo-cost, lots would want to fly.. and if this seems a stupid idea, then I felt that that Loco airline would look even more so using a 747!

By the way, you’re excused.

Its pretty ok them operating with a DC 10..see it this way…they are operating one big a/c instead of two on the same route.

Perhaps they are a popular airline and one MD-80 just isn’t enough for the number of passengers wanting to fly lo-cost with them.

Surely it’s not as bad as this Air Loco or whatever it is called which is out next Spring/Summer time! A 747 for short haul is a crazy idea.

I reckon they have gone for the DC-10 because it is fading away and they probably got it cheap anyway, perhaps cheaper than the more common aircraft e.g. the 737s as used by Ryanair or easyJet which are likely to be around for years longer.

If a passenger has a choice of going from A to B on a 737 for more than getting there by a DC10, I know which option they’ll go for — whichever saves them the most money, in this case it is Air Lib Express.
