Laser apparatus on airliners

Why is it that some airlines don’t allow the use of laser apparatus, such as CD and mini-disc players on take off and landing. Whilst other airlines have a complete ban on their use whilst in flight ?

What exactly are the dangers from such items ?

It could be because of the different kind of wiring and systems, the sampe plane but different versions. But actually I think the cause is that different airlines, different rules.

I guess that was my query as well. Why the complete ban on some planes and a partial ban on others? I flew on an Airtours A330 with a take off and landing ban on usage, whereas on the same plane with Aer Lingus there was a total ban.

Modern aircrafts have stronger avionics than older ones….so all these fields created by cells etc. dont bother them although all these things are told to be switched off during take-off and landing for safety.

I remember JMC banning such things as portable CD players on their DC-10 aircraft.

Anyone know if it is only with the older aircraft because I’ve used a portable CD player on 767s and they’ve not had a problem with it?

Those kind of machines create an electro-magnetic field, so they could be a danger if used in-flight (interference with the plane electronic systems, communications, etc.), of course they are less dangerous than items such as tlephones.

These things create and send out magnetic waves which may mess with avionics of the aircraft.
