Nah….just the first flying advertisement to be painted on a bmibaby 737-300.

Rather strange….

RE: Change Of Name?bmi extraterrestrial?
Southampton:No,its too close to Gatwick and just down the road is Bournemouth with Ryanair.
Guernsey:Never work unless you operate on as a hub-and-spoke low cost airline.Even then Guernsey does not have the correct facilities at the moment to have a low cost opertor based here and probably never will.

East Midlands and Cardiff for bmibaby. Might be the first to grow into Heathrow but I would doubt it due to the fact of the air bridge price being so high for low-cost.
I would say Southampton might appeal to them. Then there always is Guernsey. Best place cos u cud have a hub there serviing the UK and France!!

RE: Change Of Name?bmi extraterrestrial?
No, I agree with Saab. I think it’s quite unlikely. Most of the low costs seem to be more keen on expanding away from the South-East into the relatively untapped remainder of the UK.

RE: Change Of Name?bmi extraterrestrial?

These type of things are mostly in for low fare airlines(with some exceptions).

RE: Change Of Name?bmi extraterrestrial?
It’s definitely appeals more to people, but I do not believe it is at all effective.
The only people who are really going to see this are airport workers, even they won’t have time to absorb the information as they’ll have various jobs to do.
If you think of this aircraft parked up amongst many others at an airport, no passenger from inside the terminal will get a glimpse of the advertisement. Some passengers on other aircraft may see the advert as it goes flying past their aircraft, not really giving enough time to take it all in. Perhaps the odd spotter will see it as it taxis to it’s desired runway, but other than that – it’s not going to be seen at all.
What do we all do most frequently – travel on the roads or go to an airport? Well, it’s safe to say – we more than likely use the roads. Even if you are going to the airport, the majority of us will use the roads to get there. Therefore, on our way to the airport we will see a lot of boards at traffic lights and on the backs of buses, and even on taxis. This is what I would call “effective advertising”. Advertising on an aircraft may seem a brilliant idea, but it just doesn’t work in my opinion – this particular advert looks great, but I am almost sure it does not boost the sales much of the product or service being advertised.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-10-02 AT 07:38 PM (GMT)]Saab I know what you mean.
T5, No Im not saying that you are doing it to be awkward. The marquee tag never bothered me anyhow. None of us were doing anything we shouldn’t have been — every marquee tag that the AW forum people were using were aviation related, so I couldn’t really see any problem??? I only took mine away to stop arguments.

RE: Change Of Name?bmi extraterrestrial?
I’m not doing it to be awkward. Arthur didn’t like the marquee tag and I’m not using this – surely nobody can pick me up for using an animation as a signature and a flashing avatar. That’s hardly distracting… is it?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-10-02 AT 07:39 PM (GMT)]logojets are extremely common nowadays in the low cost revolution, its nothing new. They generate some extra money for the airlines.
Such examples are Ryanair, Germania or even my own beloved Aurigny.
There are benefits to advertising on aircraft. The main one is that it has more affect on a person compared to billboard or flyer, it appeals to you more, which gives you more incentive to buy the video or DVD. Its small yet affective. Something about appealing to your subconscious mind…

Pointless — maybe whilst in the sky but not when on the ground.
Btw T5, I must say, just b4 I 4get, great signature! This will make Arthur happy! 😛

RE: Change Of Name?bmi extraterrestrial?
What good thinking – such a great idea. Brings in loads of extra much needed cash for airlines.
Similar to what you see on buses. The only disadvantage – Who is going to see it? Our planes don’t drive on the roads and so they are not likely to know that ET is out on video. Once airborne, it seems quite pointless having such an advert but it looks great!
