I would like express my condolences to the passenger’s family and wish Maurice a speedy recovery. Maurice is a very generous man. Soon after Janie’s post restoration flight, an article appeared in Flypast magazine. Knowing that my school friend’s father had flown Mustangs with the RNZAF, I gave him the article to read, and suggested he check his log books. I received a phone call the following day to say that he had found his log-books and that he had not only flown NZ2427 on many occasions but had completed his first Mustang solo on NZ2427! Mike contacted Maurice, and we were invited up to Hardwick for a weekend. To cut a long story short, Maurice too Mike up in his old Mustang, and soon after landing, Mike placed a new entry for NZ2427 in his original RNZAF log-book, but this time not as ‘pilot in command’ but ‘ passenger’. If this wasn’t generous enough, Maurice then took Mike up in his Harvard for an hour! A great day.
