Airbus gets order for 10 aircraft from Lufthansa:
PARIS (AP) — Airbus said it has signed a contract with German airline operator Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Europe’s second-largest airline, for the delivery of 10 A330-300 aircraft.
Lufthansa’s supervisory board approved the purchase Sept. 18. It was announced Tuesday.
The value of the purchase wasn’t disclosed. Based on Airbus catalog prices, the contract is worth about $1.5 billion, although most regular commercial carriers pay less than the listed price. The planes will be delivered in 2004 and 2005.
Airbus and rival Boeing Co. have been lowering their prices to try to win contracts after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks discouraged air travel, depressing demand for new planes.
Lufthansa is among airlines that have ordered Airbus’ new A380 superjumbo jet, the European plane-builder’s planned rival to Boeing’s 747

They only have 4 A310’s to begin with. Not sure where they’re headed. I’ve flown on LH’s A310’s and A300-600’s, the latter being my favourite Airbus type. I’m guessing the A330’s will be used to replace those, as well, eventually. When I flew them in early August from ATH to FRA, the captain was on his last flight, and we got a water cannon salute. It was cool to see, especially the water splashing against the windows. Everybody was cheering. It was great.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-10-02 AT 08:55 PM (GMT)]Yes you’d think that Germany being one of the main countries that is involved buliding Airbuses, that the national airline would have added this aircraft to the fleet some time ago?
Are the old A310’s to go to another airline or are they to be stored, its just that I heard that a few of them are to go to Ariana?

It was only a matter of time before LH acquired A330’s, as they have operated every other Airbus type to date. Same with AF, taking A330’s not too long ago to be able to brag about the same thing.

they’re to replace the A310’s on LH’s medium range fleet (North Africa and the middle East), although they may possibly also be deployed on some less busy transatlantic routes.
If they do go transatlantic, they’ll be the first LH twin to cross the Atlantic, as previously they’ve always used at least trijets for transoceanic routes.
