Video of EFATO, and rather violent arrival ( Please mute if gallic swearing offends!)

This arrival looks rather more speedy than required, but might be a GoPro visual effect, since he does not seem to lower the nose much from climb out.

I guess until we have been there/done that we cannot know how effectively we will handle this most challenging scenario.

He did not try to turn, and spin in, so it was not a bad result, all things considered.

When it goes quiet suddenly the voice in your (my) head screams “Don’t stall spin! Don’t stall spin! Get that nose down!”

Then you look for options. I didn’t have many and chose quite a steep turn to port, at the same time pushing the nose down even more, which is why I had too much sink to round out effectively and so hit the ground very solidly. In hindsight I overdid the nose down and had I been a little less aggressive might have been able to use the aircraft again. But I’m alive, so I will settle for having done the best I could in the very limited time available. I was much lower than the guy in the video when it died. I’d have killed to have had the height he did.

The one thing I have learned since from discussions is that there are more fatalities related to partial engine failures than from full. The comforting sound of at least some engine noise leading people to try and complete a circuit/reach a runway rather than putting it down in the best field available.

There have been some comments on another site about the speed of his landing and also suggesting he should have turned back! It looks a slippery type of machine, what would happen if he turned? lose height quickly and perhaps stall? The video suggested he actually touched down then went up over the trees then crashed.
I was taught never to turn back unless at a height that you could safely do so, but I dont have flaps and stall speed is 38, take off and climb at 60.
Perhaps moggy could comment further?

As he headed for the trees he definitely slurs the words “Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!” 😀

He did well to clear those trees.
