Well i’m back!I’ve had a great holiday in Menorca. After a lot of travelling I finally arrived back today. So as I promised below is my trip report (does not include regional sector)
I arrived in LGW at around 12.30p.m. on Monday 12th,ready for our flight to Mahon. As I had a few hours at the airport because of the time of the regional flights,I went up to the sky viewing area on the south terminal where I saw numerous aircraft.I also went in to the WHS and bought some books and models, which I normally stock up on when I go there. After an our I went to have a bite of lunch in Garfunkles and then to buy a few books.
At 14.30 I changed terminals on the small monorail that links the two terminals. At the Air 2000 desks there was hardly any lines so we were quick checking in.Security checks were also quick, not like what the media had been saying. The north terminal was much brighter than the south and better shops.
At 17.35 boarding began.I had been expecting ever a 757,A320/21,but it was a 767-300ER!I was extremly pleased,it would be the first time i’d travelled on the 767.We were seated in rows 11 with seats F,G and H.The seat configuration was 2x4x2.Nice amount of legroom and the seats were of normal comfort. The aircraft was very cold and smelt of urine, which was not at all pleasent.
Push back was at 18.10 and the captain went through the journey.Today it would be;Brighton-Le Harve-Paris-Toulouse-Perpignan-Menorca with a time of 1 hour 50 minutes.Cruising height 35,000ft.
At 18.20 we took off and turned left towards the south coast.Over La Harve the meals came round or as Air 2000 put it ‘Deli’.I thought it must of been a joke, normally I get a full meal but this was perfetic. Baked bread Ciabatta bread with cheese, ham and egg and for afters a small muffin.Tea and coffee was brought round after. After dinner the in-flight entertainment began. Two television shows and 11 music channels.Cabin crew were moody and had long faces,if another child ran infront of one of the female attendants,i’m sure she would of screamed.
Descent began at around 150nm of Menorca, drinks were also served at this time.I had a pepsi. We continued our descent and at 9.20 we landed to schedule. At the terminal was:
Excel 767
Air 2000 A321
Iberia Regional ATR72
Monarch A300
Eurofly A320
We boared buses and went to passport control. Our luggage took 40 minutes to come through which was annoying! However,we quickly left for our hotel.
********************
The holiday itself was great.Sun,sun and more sun.One of the highlights must of been eating at the table next to Richard Branson!!!He moared up his boat next to the boat we were eating on and sat with his family at the table next to us.I didn’t think it was right to go and ask for an autograph.I also saw the President of Spain but that was really that exciting!
*********************
The terminal at Menorca airport was crammed full of people checking in for flights to MAN,MME,LGW,STN,DUB,GLA,LBA,NCL.It was terrible. After waiting in line for 50 minutes we finally went through security to the departure area, which has bad shops, not many seats and was dirty.Boarding began at 19.00 CET,30 minutes late. Our aircraft was a 757-200 in old AMM c/s.We were seated in row 7,seats A, and C with a 3×3 configuration. Not much legroom and the seats were hard. Our crusing height would be 37,000ft and our route was Menorca-Marseille-Paris-Dieppe-Gatwick.Journet time 2 hours.
After take off we headed north towards Marseille where yet again the ‘deli’ was served.A crispy bacon roll was served,it tasted the same as the meal going out.The entertainment was then shown,11 channels of music and a TV show-‘An Audience with Kylie’
Just past the French coast we began our descent.Drinks were served by a much nicer cabin crew who were very pleasent and even with children in the isles continued with smiles on their faces.I had mineral water. At around 20.30 GMT,we landed on the west runway at LGW,15 minutes late.
After a short wait for baggage in the empty north terminal we went through arrivals and then on to Le Meridian hotel.

RE: Air 2000 767/757 LGW-MAH/MAH-LGW
…because most charter destinations are not served directly by scheduled services from UK airports. Also as they are bought as a complete package.

T5 – Astraeus also use the North terminal. A couple of years ago I was invited up the tower at Gatwick and was inerested to hear that they were trying to pursuade another major charter operator to move to the North terminal.

Yes Le Meridien is a good airport hotel. At nine at night when you’ve been travelling, its much more convenient to walk from the airport to the hotel, rather than having to go all the way to the south terminal for the Hilton or the shuttle buses to the Renaisance or some B&B in Hawley.
The prices were extremely high,a coke from the mini bar was £1.60 and a pizza £10,but it was worth it.I think the prices at the Hilton are even worse.

Le Meridien at LGW is a very good hotel for an airport. It aint cheap though – at least not if you walk in from the terminal at 8pm and ask for a room that night!
About a month ago I had to wait 90 minutes for my bags at LHR, T4. They are always sooo slow in the mornings. Great British service ethic to the fore again!

RE: Air 2000 767/757 LGW-MAH/MAH-LGW
Probably have a contract with the Airport operators – i.e. Long Term benifits – lower landing fees etc – similar to AIH based at Manchy – they use T1 and most of the others use T2!

RE: Air 2000 767/757 LGW-MAH/MAH-LGW
Good report. Any idea why Air 2000 don’t use the South Terminal at Gatwick like other Charters; Excel, Monarch, Britannia etc?
