I am travelling to Holguin in Cuba next year & I am flying from LGW. We are booked to fly with Monarch, Is there anybody out there that might know what aircraft it would be. I have a feeling it would be a A330 (200 series or 300 series?), but I don’t know if they still have the DC10 or the A300?
I am then doing an internal flight from Holguin to Havana with Cubana, any idea’s on what aircraft this could be?
All help appreciated!!
Cheers all 🙂

RE: Flight’s to Holguin, Cuba
The North Korean website showed a line up of IL-62’s and what looked like IL-76’s. Lots of planes considering they only fly 3 flight a week internationally!
Keltic – Tehran options are quite good:
Alitalia from MXP use a 767-300
Emirates from DXB use a 777-200
BA from LHR use an A321
Austrian from VIE use an A340
Lufthansa from FRA use an A340
Swiss from ZRH use an MD-11
Turkish from IST use a 737-800
Couldn’t find any direct Spanish otions though. I bet you can’t fly there from JFK!

RE: Flight’s to Holguin, Cuba
Aerogaviota belongs to Cubana and operates at tourist charter base. Only paid in US dollars and at high prices for locals. And for Mongu, if you want to fly to Cuba, Iberia is the number one for conections to South America for obvious reasons. Being a member of Oneworld and due to BA code shares, it would be a perfect option for UK (or Isle of Man :-))passengers. In Europe, we also keep the highest number or charter links with Cuba as the first tourist providers to the island. So flying Iberworld A330 or Air Plus A310 would be great. Air Europa also has a schedule link to the island. Cubana flies the AOM DC-10, but NO WAY: My girlfriend also has an inclination for “evil” countries, and would love a North Korean adventure, but I am affraid, next time Iran will the chosen destiny. I still have my doubts about flying into Iran. I am hoping their purchasing brand new A320 for internal flights.

RE: Flight’s to Holguin, Cuba
I shall take your advice on this one, I have flown internally in Russia with Aeroflot (Tupolev 134) I had a work colleague tell me that I must have a death wish !! I was single then and I now have a family, so I will try with the other airline who operate ATR 42’s. Thank you for your advice.

RE: Flight’s to Holguin, Cuba
I’ve always wanted to visit an “evil” country and I’m hoping my fiance will like the idea of a week in Pyongyang! But Cuba might be a bit more realistic.
I tried to see what flights were like, but Expedia.co.uk said that they were banned from selling flights to Havana (??!!). Opodo.co.uk offered a flight on on Air France 747 via CDG. But it seems there is no direct flight from the UK to Cuba, unless you book a package tour. I gave up on North Korea when their website said the only flight they flew was twice a week to Beijing on Rusky-air. I just value my life too much!

CUBANA llega hoy, o en ataud MANANA
it´s also called “La Milagrosa”….the miraculous one. My worst flight experience was on a AN24 landing in Santiago in a storm and the same with a IL-62 in Gander with several attempts. Many crashed were due to bad weather. It seems to me that landing in Cubana sometimes is a matter of “cojones”, not of instruments.

RE: Flight’s to Holguin, Cuba
It will be on their A330 as the DC-10 they used to operate has been taken out of service.
Regards,
Lyndon.

RE: Flight’s to Holguin, Cuba
never, ever dare to get an internal flight in Cuba. You would be flying AN24 or YAK40, but if you get aerogaviota you could fly on a ATR, which is substantially safer. there are other operators but with older equipment. I am telling what an Cuban air controller told me once….Never fly Cubana….slogan over there.
“CUBANA arrive today or in coffin tomorrow”….in Spanish it rhymes

RE: Flight’s to Holguin, Cuba
My parents done this trip in March 2001 and they flew Monarch. It was an Airbus A330 and they said the airport was strange as there was just one flight every day or two or something like that?!!
