Cheap way tp Bangkok in Oct 2006

We are thinking about going to Bangkok next year, I know you guys are the experts, is it cheaper to go via Amsterdam, Germany etc etc?

I priced it with BA direct from Heathrow but i know sometimes it is cheaper flying on different airlines. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
