Cargo jet crashes half a mile from runway
A FedEx Boeing 727 cargo jet has crashed in flames just short of the runway at Tallahassee Airport in Florida.
The three crew members escaped serious injury.
The three-engine jet, from Memphis, Tennessee, landed half a mile short of the runway.
“We can’t speculate on the cause,” said FedEx spokesman Jess Bunn.
A hospital official said the crew were in fair condition. They were being checked for broken bones; they did not suffer burns, she said.

ENDS
Thank goodness there seems to be no serious injuries. Being so close to the runway I am guessing they were able to ditch on a clear and level area.

Carl

RE: FedEx 727 crash
It´s quite odd a plane losing control like that. So my personal hypothesis. A distraction is not feasable (fine weather perfect visibility) an engine failure would have produced this. The plane was carrying corrosive material from recycled batteries, so a leak could reach vital control surface or even hidraulics and could have made it to ditch. possible?.
