SIA keeping options open!

Singapore Airlines are said to be keeping their options open for a new domestic a/l here in Australia.

Since the demise of Ansett, the government has opened up restrictions on them, and now invite them to start up a third carrier for domestic service as soon as possible. They have been aporached by the SAC (Sydney Airport Corperation) which is in favour of them using their terminal (The one that they bought from the Ansett liqudation). This has angered Virgin Blue, who are currently using a Bus shed type terminal (I was there on Saturday night, it really is bad there, so cheap).

VB are pushing through over 1000 passengers an hour at this terminal, which was initially designed for a max of 350 Passangers an hour. Passengers are starting to crowd out of the terminal and are also starting to protest the governments actions for not moving VB into the old Ansett terminal sooner!

SIA might be linked to the new, albeit mysterious, airline “Spirit” who will be based in Melbourne and are scheduled to start opperations next month. to this date no news has been released!

RE: SIA keeping options open!

Ironic how this same subject showed up on 2 different threads, and I basically addressed every single one of those questions in the other one. Bus terminal is correct, JA, as I flew in and out of there a week and a half ago. They’re saying the current flow of passengers is over its quota? Try having their whole system shut down, at 6:00 a.m., with flights to Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and whatever other destination they serve from Sydney, waiting to take off, nobody has their boarding passes, and the cue is just growing outside the bus terminal(and it was damn cold too, by my standards at least).

RE: SIA keeping options open!

This is weird.

Doesn’t SIA own a 49% stake in Virgin Atlantic? As VA own 50% (I think) of VB, then SIA are roughly 25% indirect principals in VB.

You don’t think they’ll be “friendly” competitors and share facilities?
