Charters pulling out….

Why did Air 2000 pull out of Newcastle recently? I know they still do occassional flights but I’m sure they don’t have an aircraft based there at the moment.

Also, is there any more information on the rumours that Britannia are to pull out of Leeds next season?

Are there any other major charter changes lined up for 2003 for any of LBA/MME/NCL?

Ahhh right…I didn’t know the AEA flights had such high PAX. Cheers.

RE: Charters pulling out….

We had the 762’s for a couple of years on the Palma route, but due to their replacement with the 763 which operates scheduled services we now get 2 738 flights instead – which seems to me to equal a higher number of available seats!!

RE: Charters pulling out….

What else would they fly though? They only realistically have 767s other than that for the route and they wouldn’t get filled. Mind you…they’ve popped into LBA now and again before.

RE: Charters pulling out….

Thanks for the response Preston.

I do admit, it does seem strange the AEA738’s regularly fly out of LBA with apparently no problems.

RE: Charters pulling out….

Well the 738 did struggle onto some of the further destinations and as such had to have constant weather updates en-route and if there was any problem it would divert, re-fuel then continue – i think this happened on a few occasions in 2 years of operation – if the a/c was so heavy does this indicate a full plane to you as we have daily 738 departures by AEA with daily departures to places like Tenerife and Gran Caneria!!!.

The 738 would still be flying at EGNM but for one thing – Britannia AB (Sweden) wanted another 738 and were prepared to do a swap for 752, this would have left BY (UK) with only 1 738 in the fleet, so both were transferred to Sweden in return for 752’s which suited both companies – admittidly it is only full for the high season most popular runs, but i believe it could b better utilised as it spends a lot more time overnight on the ground than the MYT A320 which is nearly on a 100% utilisation rates with 5 or 6 rotations operated by other carrers or W pattern MYT a/c – could this be a sign of a need for a second based a/c??

btw ben it was BY’s 25th anniversary at NM not so long bak

here is a post put on the LBA movements website a couple of years bak: –

30-Aug-00
Due to its wing characteristics (and resulting high landing/take-off speed), thebased Britannia B.737-800 (G-BYNC) is increasingly affected by runway/range restrictions, making it impossible to reach some of its scheduled destinations directly.

RE: Charters pulling out….

Wasn’t the reason for the upgrade from 738 to 752 though based on operational reasons rather than demand?

As I understand it, the 738 would struggle at LBA when full of PAX and full of fuel on a hot day due to the short runway. I’m lead to believe that on a number of occassions the 738 would have to take off with less fuel and re-fuel somewhere else (MAN).

The story was the 738 was the ideal size for LBA (or the A320 back in the Transaer seasons) but the 752 was too big.

I don’t know how true this was but it seemed to stack up.

RE: Charters pulling out….

As for the haulting of a BY base next year at LBA. I don’t think so. It is only recently that BY and LBA celebrated 25years working together (25 years is it Preston?) and upgraded from a based B738 (G-BYNC) last season to a B752 this season.

Hopefully just a rumour!

RE: Charters pulling out….

JMC removed their only ‘JMC aircraft’ route (LBA-Alicante) into LBA this season but, still operate through other airlines.

If you look at a post of mine from the other day entitled ‘British European Killed-off at NCL’, there is some info on the same thing but, obviously with BE not AMM.

RE: Charters pulling out….

i think Air 2000 pulling out of Newcastle is down to the implications of September 11 – msut have found it unviable to operate or should i say base an aircraft there.

Similarly JMC Airlines pulled out of regional airports, cant remember which ones but I believe it may be London Luton and/or Cardiff and Bristol Airports – wouldn’t bet my life on those airprots though!
