Watching “Rove Live” tonight (Wednsday 16/07/02) a chat show we have here in OZ. The man himself tells the story about the Qantas deal and how it all started.
First he was renting the B707 for two years (During the making of Swordfish, which was made down here), he appeard on Rove for the first time and they got talking about the plane, were Rove suggested the idea. So John rang the CEO of Qantas and spoke to him about doing the colours on the plane which he had now bought, to which the CEO counter-offered, for John to become an ambassador. After details were hammered out and the agreement struck, john insisted that he learn everything about the airline and it’s industry.
As of today he has now
* Undertaken flights as captain (on his flight people wouldn’t sit down and eat their meals, the stewardess asked him to intervien so he got on the announcement system and said “Ladies and Gentelmen, this is your captain speaking- sit down and eat”- very smooth John)
* Ate and flown in all classes on QF flights (First- Business- Ecconomy) to which he said that he prefered the Econnomy class.
Checked passengers in for boarding (Turns out that he checked in one of our famous footballers and his three kids, and the people were more impressed with him than with John behind the counter).
* Been a bagage handeler, where he actually love the throwing of the bags up the ramp.
He is looking forward to getting in to tomorrows work where he will be going into the maintainence shed for a first hand look at what’s involved in keeping Australia’s Number One A/L flying, then after that, he will be going over to the Jet Test cell to see or at least hear the engines revving up to the max- sounds fun mate!
He qutoed on the show that he trully belives in Qantas cause they have the Best Air Safty Record, the best quallity in A/L food, the best staff (I have to disput that one mate, they’ve always treated me like dirt).
