Aviation can be so unforgiving.

Moggy, if you know anyone there please make them aware of this, being a light aircraft they may well be unaware of its construction.

I remember the RAF guys were bad.

Thanks.
I understand that the moment of impact has been removed from the video with apologies from the editor as a ‘mistake’. I still don’t want to see it, preferring to remember the brilliant guy in life.
As for the couple, yes, let’s hope the incident doesn’t result in more casualties in the long term. I didn’t know that about carbon fibre I must admit.

Moggie there is a tribute to him here, though the film is on the link too, i think you have to start it.
My concerns over this is if you read some of the replies and articles, a couple attempted to put out the blaze with a fire ext from their car. The wing of the aircraft is made of Carbon Fibre, when the RAF lost a Harrier in a woodland that burrnt out, the recovery team at the time unaware of the consequences were breathing in shards of burnt carbon fibre and it shredded their lungs, it was bad, and I do hope someone down there is aware of the effects, it cannot be removed and they lost a lot of their lung capacity and I seem to remember some died. After that they changed to full environment suits and breathing apparatus, additionally they would mechanically sweep runways then dispose of the runway sweepers. you think asbestos is bad, this is 99 times worse.

Beautiful! I would add, a young woman who taught you to fly!

Thank you for looking Alan – I can’t.
Meanwhile, posted elsewhere by a mutual friend

I hope there’s a place, way up in the sky,
Where pilots can go, when they have to die-
A place where a guy can go and buy a cold beer
For a friend and comrade, whose memory is dear;
A place where no doctor or lawyer can tread,
Nor management type would ere be caught dead;
Just a quaint little place, kinda dark and full of smoke,
Where they like to sing loud, and love a good joke;
The kind of place where a lady could go
And feel safe and protected, by the men she would know.
There must be a place where old pilots go,
When their paining is finished, and their airspeed gets low,
Where the whiskey is old, and the women are young,
And the songs about flying and dying are sung,
Where you’d see all the fellows who’d flown west before.
And they’d call out your name, as you came through the door;
Who would buy you a drink if your thirst should be bad,
And relate to the others, “He was quite a good lad!”
And then through the mist, you’d spot an old guy
You had not seen for years, though he taught you how to fly.
He’d nod his old head, and grin ear to ear,
And say, “Welcome, my son, I’m pleased that you’re here.
“For this is the place where true flyers come,
“When the journey is over, and the war has been won
“They’ve come here to at last to be safe and alone
From the government clerk and the management clone,
“Politicians and lawyers, the Feds and the noise
Where the hours are happy, and these good ol’boys
“Can relax with a cool one, and a well-deserved rest;
“This is Heaven, my son — you’ve passed your last test!”

Rob – just been confirmed on Look East. A desperate day…

Awful news – so sad 🙁

It is still to be confirmed, but the likelihood of it being anyone else in an Edge, flying a Press Day show for Old Buckenham is minimal.
He wasn’t a close friend; we shared an aerodrome once, and there was always a cup of coffee and biscuits to be had in his hangar, no electricity in ours. If you needed mechanical advice he’d always help out, a very knowledgeable guy in aircraft engineering. He became one of the UK’s top competition aerobatic pilots, and a member of a well-known display team out here in the East
Since then he always dropped in to OB for fuel or a meal. Always ready to chat about something or nothing. A brilliant pilot, a nice guy. I can’t still believe I will never chat to him again.
I have to go to the field to do an oil change. I was going today, but as the weather was nice I stuck with a garden project at home – for that I am very glad.
It was a Press Day. Doubtless there will be video on the news tonight. I, for one, shall avoid it.

Sorry to hear Moggy, if it’s any small comfort, dying doing something you love has to be a better way to go. My condolences to you and the family involved.

Robin,
I just checked in to make sure it wasn’t you.
Sorry to hear it. 🙁

Impossible to find words of comfort. Think instead about shared moments.

Aviation can be so unforgiving.
Moggy
It certainly can, he will be very much missed by a good number of people.
By: Paul F - 22nd April 2015 at 16:17
Very sorry to hear that Moggy, condolences to you and to those close to your friend.
Like anything worth doing, the risks are outweighed by the rewards for most of the time, but it can be a very sad day when things go wrong.
Remember the good times.
