I wasn’t sure whether or not this was the best place to post this topic but with it being called the “British Airways London Eye” it seemed the best option.
I’m just curious as to whether any of you guys have been on the eye and what you thought of it – if not, would you consider it?
It’s £10.50 for an adult > someone over 15 years of age and lasts about half an hour. It used to be a sellout and about 30 people were crammed into each capsule. I went on it yesterday and there was no more than 10 per capsule.
One thing that I did like about it was the fact that you could see all the aircraft flying into Heathrow. I managed to get a glimpse of the Air Jamaica A340 as it flew over us.
The wheel takes you 135 metres above the ground and the views are magnificent.
It was rather pricey for what it is was, but I suppose once you’ve done it once, you wouldn’t do it again. Some man made a joke and said British Airways probably make more money from the London Eye than they do with the actual airline!! It wouldn’t surprise me!
When it first opened, I worked out that if we assumed every capsule was filled with the maximum number of passengers, say half are children and half are adults, it worked out that British Airways were making £4800 per loop – thats every half hour!!
I personally wouldn’t recommend it – it was too long, very expensive and just too slow. They also try to make it like being on a real aircraft with commentary from a computerised woman. “Ladies and Gentlemen, very shortly we will be beginning our descent”, you are descending from the moment you reach the top yet that announcement was put out about 2 or 3 minutes before coming to an end…!!
It also ruins the City of London completely. We’ve got all these parliamental buildings and then a ferris wheel!!!

I’m sure the Virgin group with Richard Branson would love to do something wacky like that!

We might get the “BMI British Midland Roller Coaster” in Buckingham Palace’s back garden next… actually, that’d be good!

RE: British Airways London Eye
I went on the London eye three years ago.One of the best attractions in London and well worth the money for the Millenium if you get my drift..dome..Beautiful views over London and like you said you can see the planes landing at LHR.
I don’t think its spoils the area,if anything it brightens the area up.All major cities have them now,Paris,Vienna, ect.
