Pic of the Day – 19/06/2002

I came across this pic on airliners.net and it really is spectacular. Little did anyone know, just three months later the skyline would not look like that.

🙁

RE: Pic of the Day – 19/06/2002

I saw somthing recently that said America plans to build several MUCH smaller buildings on the sight as well as a huge memorial garden for the victims lost in the disaster. Victims families were campaigning to have the whole sight as a memorial area (a huge park) but, It was said that because it was not realistic a comprimise would be made between trading buildings and gardens. It would be a strong message to the world if another supreme building was erected but, I think they’re going about it the right way.

Kabir,

It would indeed be a magnificent sight but there are a couple of problems. When the original WTC was built it was a failure as it was less than half occupied until the mid 80’s. Since 9/11 I think it unlikely that many of the companies who lost a lot of staff would ever want to put their people at such a risk again. The FDNY, NYPD and PAPD lost so many people that day that to build again in such a fashion would be immoral. Since 9/11, it has come to light from some of the firefighters personal testimonies that by and large they are so inadequately equipped that many buy their own tools and safety gear. Another interesting thing is that firefighters work either nine or fifteen hour shifts, and although each firehouse has a kitchen, the firefighters have to buy their own food.

Such are the ways the world treats it’s heroes.

Didn’t they announce not too long after the attack that they were going to build 4 smaller towers to replace the 2 lost? I think thats the plan anyway, 4 towers about half the size of the others, but from what I seem to remember from the drawings that were published they look very much alike.

May have been, 1 of many ideas they have for the site, but I don’t think building anything begger is a good idea at all.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-06-02 AT 06:02 PM (GMT)]I totally disagree with you. Why not build a better WTC, if they dont it will be seen as a lost battle for America. They should build a much more superior structure. Just going to Afghanistan and having a military aceleration wont just help. If they build a better WTC it will show defeat of Taliban and will also raise the moral of the USA.

I don’t think they should build another World Trade Center. I think people would fear working in the building, especially if there is something going on between the USA and other countries which may trigger more terrorist attacks.

There was a large chunk of one of the towers which was left stuck in the ground. Many said this should have stayed as it could have represented the center and helped remember all those innocent people who were lost on the day of September 11th, 2001.

nice pic…sad about the skyline…. but it wont help just looking back to regain memories, it will be great to see a taller and nicer looking WTC…. and USA is going to do it, i can assure that!
