[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-06-02 AT 07:23 PM (GMT)]Aparently a Virgin Atlantic A340-600 is landing at Farnborough on a trade day and stating over til the end! It is being picked up in France (it is flown to Farnborough on the day it is rolled out so wont have really even been used for paying pax!)and flown to LHR then celebs and Tony Blair (why him he muscules in on everything!) and then flys for display at Farnborough and lands. This has been released by the head of cabin crew on the special flight!
Quatar Airines or Airways are gonna fly up two A319’s and a brand spanking new A300 reportedly by a staff member!

I can’t see what this has to do with Commercial Aviation, so I’ll move it into General Discussion.

RE: Farnborough
I’ve got two tickets and I’m unsure as to what I should do. Do I go on one day and take my completely unenthusiastic father ot do I go on my own on both days??
If I go on one day it’ll be the Sunday and I’m going to be taking a few photos.

Two hotels in Farnborough you may want to try. I think they are bed and breakfast but one of them does have a 3* rating by the AA and the RAC.

RE: Farnborough
Yeah, I figured the Holliday Inn is expensive. It’s expensive in London too. Are there Bed&Breakfasts immediately near the airshow itself, or relatively close? If so, how can I get ahold of them so I can make a reservation. I already have my airfare to London, so I’d like to get this finalized.

RE: Farnborough
I live in Reading and the Holiday Inn is on the Thames, so it’s not going to be cheap. As I said above, it’s really easy to get to Farnborough from Reading itself.
I think the before you move quite so far away from the aerodrome, why not try Camberley or Aldershot – they may have a Travelodge, where rooms are £40 or £50 per night and sleep up to 4? The Holiday Inn will be incredibly expensive as it is quite a posh place with nice surroundings and also, it’s in the centre of town.

RE: Farnborough
The Holliday Inn should work, if I can’t get a hotel nearer. How far is Reading from the airshow itself?

RE: Farnborough
You can actually fly to the airfeild but only if you fly in your own aircraft and u have to pay landing fees, parking fees etc which wont be cheap! But aparently if u fly in u dont need a ticket to enter the show!
Anybody here own a Cessna or Piper and have a PPl :D:D:D:D

RE: Farnborough
I booked my hotle lat week costing £140 for two nights. It was the third last room available. It seemed to be one of the last rooms in town as we tryed 4 hotels and got luckly with the 5th. The nearest one now is aparently in Reading, its a Holiday Inn called Reading South.
You could try Bed and Breakfast places when u get there but aparently the place has been booked up since for some while now.
I shall try and get u the details of our hotel as there might be one or two rooms left. The price is £70 per night and it is about near enought the airfield. It is a 10 minute taxi journey we were told or around 20minutes by foot!
If you want hotel info pls email me on [mailto:andybusiness@btinternet.com]

Thanks T5. How easy will it be to get a hotel room there, once I arrive. Will they be all sold out?

RE: Farnborough
You can’t fly to Farnborough from London, but if you were to be able to get to a London Airport (LGW or LHR), transport to the aerodrome is easy and modestly priced.
Gatwick trains to Reading run every 30 mintues I think and these stop at Farnborough North, about 15-20mins walk from the location. Alternatively, Railair Bus from Heathrow gets you to Reading where you can get a train to Farnborough North. The closest rail station is Farnborough Main (the bigger of the two) but this is on a different line and will require changes.
However, go to http://www.thetrainline.com/ and plan a route by train. Your nearest railway station to Farnborough and it will give prices, times, number of changes etc.
Hope this helps,

RE: Farnborough
Its just off Junction 4 of the M3 heading towards Wales. It is open to Public on 27th + 28th of July. Tickets are £17.50 prebook price and £22 on the day price. If you are under 16 u get in free with a ticket paying adult.
