Egyptair crashes in Tunisia

breaking news…

An EgyptAir plane has crashed near Tunis, the Tunisian news agency (TAP) reports.
The report did not say what type of plane had crashed, or how many people were on board.

One unconfirmed report says a number of passengers survived.

The plane was on a short flight from the Egyptian capital Cairo to Tunis, a Tunisian Government official told the French news agency AFP.

The plane crashed as it was coming in to land, about six kilometres (four miles) from the Tunis-Carthage airport, TAP reported.

The control tower lost contact with the plane a few seconds earlier, just after a distress call from the pilot, the report said.

The weather was foggy and rainy at the time.

Eyewitnesses told Reuters that the plane hit a hillside and ambulances were rushing to the scene.

“The plane is a big passenger plane. It crashed in the Nahli area of Tunis,” one eyewitness said.

RE: Egyptair crashes in Tunisia

I think the only thing that has saved so many on this jet is that it was nearing landing and thus at a slow approach speed, plus the fact that it seems to have hit the hill belly first instead of nose first. The rear and forward sections, which is where most have survived, are all still mainly intact, while the mid-section is a wreck!

Sad day. 🙁

Regards, Glenn.

Tragic News… let’s hope the death toll isn’t high. Any ideas as to what the cause was yet?
