Here we go again, I can only hope poor old EGNM doesn’t miss it this time around! You gotta be as snappy as possible!
1. 26th September 1997. An A300 aircraft crashes just 15 minutes before scheduled to land in Medan. The aircraft was directed in poor weather into the mountainous areas and crashed 20 miles outside of the airport. All 234 on board were killed.
So, what’s the airline?
***
2. 11th December 1994. A Philippine Airlines 747-200 aircraft had a bomb on board which detonated at FL 300. It blew a 2 square foot whole in the aircraft and caused loss of life.
Of the 292 on board, how many were killed?
***
3. 13th November 1985. A Boeing 737-200 landed and half way down the runway it veered off into dry grass which caught fire. 9 people out of 137 on board were killed.
What was the airline (and location if possible)?
***
4. “The aircraft crashed after a captain allowed his child to manipulate the controls of the plane. The pilot’s 11 year old daughter and 16 year old son were taking turns in the pilot’s seat. While the boy was flying, he inadvertently disengaged the autopilot linkage to the ailerons and put the airliner in a bank of 90 degrees which caused the nose to drop sharply. The co-pilot pulled back on the yoke to obtain level flight but the plane stalled. With his seat pulled all the way back, the co-pilot in the right hand seat could not properly control the aircraft. After several stalls and rapid pull-ups the plane went into a spiral descent. In the end the co-pilot initiated a 4.8g pull-up and nearly regained a stable flight path but the aircraft struck the ground in an almost level attitude killing all aboard.”
What can you tell me about the information given above? Airline? Aircraft?

Good luck with these ones! 😀

RE: Air Disasters : Quiz 2
[b]Sorry…!![/b}
I made a mistake, thats why you couldn’t get number 3 right…
1. Garuda Indonesia
2. Just one passenger in seat 26K.
3. Correction It was in fact 13th November 1995 and not 1985. It was Nigeria Airways in Kaduna.
4. The aircraft was an Airbus A310-300 of Aeroflot, registration F-OGQS. All 75 on board were killed. The accident occurred in Mezhdurechensk, Russia.
Well done everyone and sorry for the mess-up!

RE: Air Disasters : Quiz 2
The BA 732 incident u are referring to was in the summer and was not a landing inncident – the aircraft was on it’s take off roll when a combustion chamber exploded and punctured the wing fuel tanks, causing the fire. The nearest 737 incident to this date was a Granade Attack at Luqa, Malta

RE: Air Disasters : Quiz 2
1. PK-GAI of Gauruda Indonesia at Jakarta
2. 1 Fatality
3. No records on 2 sites of this incident!
4. Airbus A310 of Aeroflot/Russian International Airways
The aircraft crashed after entering a zero G spin. The Captain was allowing his 15-year-old son to fly the airplane when the boy applied full deflection to the yoke, causing the autopilot to disengage and the aircraft to roll nearly 90°. The First Officer then pulled back on his yoke to attempt recovery, but the aircraft stalled and entered a spin from which recovery was not possible.
