I will be stuck at Newark waiting for a transfer flight. But I have to wait 12 hours, the flight come in at 10pm and leaves at 10am.
Is there anything to do for 12 hours other than sit there and do nothing??
Regards

RE: Things to do at Newark International
I’ve flown with Continental Airlines to Newark and they are the best airline in the world – they always give you cups of water and orange juice, international aircraft have ptv’s, food is great (choc chip cookies during films!) and they also have a frequent bar service! Cabin Crew are also very friendly.
Newark has a few shops and a lot of ice cream parlours and bars. Great vieews of NYC.
Baggage will get their tags at the airport in the U.K but at Newark you have to collect your bag and take it to the transfer check in where you put your bag on the belt. Then its off to the gate.
Hope this information is useful!!!!

Well imagine being stuck inside an ATP to MAN and then back again – it’s not a very passenger friendly aircraft IMHO.

y not see how many times the planes come and go – i.e. when we were 7 hours at manchy we watched this same ATP come and go from the Isle of Man 3 times – sad innit!

RE: Things to do at Newark International
Just back from the USA. Flew with Continental. Service and accomodation was good. I flew two times in a 767. However, Newark was a disaster Immigration took 3 hours and the following security check another hour. Everything in the photobag had to be opened and inspected (nice to see every of the 90 filmrolls to be opened) and even the camera’s had to put on (and test photo’s had to be made). After that, we were “free” to enter the terminal for the connecting flight. However, the field is crowded with “Ground Security Inspectors” which were 17 year old children giving the power to stop everybody and inspect them. It is very disturbing when you have to empty your bag, and put your shoes out, every 25 meters. This was what they did. As one team was ready with the tourists, the others were waiting within sight and did it over again, laughing to the first team and already signing to the next bunch of loosers with a badge which were already within sight to stop and “strip” the people again. Terrible, terrible terrible, it took us 9 hours to get our connecting flight to Orlando. Taking an interest in aircraft wasn’t apreaciated either, as we were not allowed to take photographs. However, videofilming was allowed. Newark (maybe just at the moment) is a very passenger unfriendly airport, although I realise that being hijacked is a million times worse. No problems later on Orlando, Houston and phoenix, were security was intense, but correct.

RE: Things to do at Newark International
Thanks for the helpful suggestions, however I forgot to mention I will be at Newark on the 20th of Decemeber this year, Im sure that will make it even worse more people no doubt.
I guess I could hope for a 6 or 8 hour delay at Heathrow but a good book or an internet cafe will be fine.
It looks like I will be flying with Continetal Airlines, no idea what aircraft yet, so what can I expect for a 8 hour flight in a steel tube??
Any ideas what terminal accepts international flights??
Another question on the subject of baggage, as I am on a transfer flight will I actually see my main luggage? or will it be transfered straight for loading on the next a/c??
Cheers

Well you won’t be able to wait at the airport, you might have to find something to do.Go to Manhattan it’s a short trip at night from New Jersey and you can check out the sights.

Sorry… me again.
Why not have a 12 hour “eye-spy” marathon? You could have the topic as airports and aircraft and keep going non-stop for 12 hours – so long as you have some others wanting to play.

Drink plenty of caffeine (coke and coffee) and take a pocket chess set!
Okay… so this will not cure your boredom and watching planes in the dark is not good either. You’ll see a few lights and that’ll be the lot.
You could hope for a delay on your flight to Newark which would be mean a later arrival. This also means that you are delayed for half the time at two airports, meaning there’s loads to do i.e. stock up on duty free ciggies and booze.
Then again, if you aren’t a smoker or a drinker, you’re stuck and I think it will prbably be the longest 12 hours of your life. 🙁

RE: Things to do at Newark International
Newark is a bad airport to wait at.
I remember checking in for a flight to LHR, and you had to basically walk straight to the gate area – there were some seats and a few kiosks! Terrible.
Check in was also ludicrously overcrowded and the baggage trolleys were insane – you needed to deposit a coin to use them (???!!!) but I couldn’t figure it out. What sort of crap airport inconveniences travellers like this????
Only compensation was great views from the aircraft (on the tarmac) of the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State and the WTC (this was pre 9/11 obviously).
