Cockpit ergonomics can be an issue on homebuilts.
Twice in the early days I floated happily down the huge runway at Tibenham with no sign of the thing wanting to land, only to discover I was pulling back the prop control instead of the throttle.

Apparently the pilot was imprisoned in his cockpit until the emergency rescue service arrived! Fortunately for him, there was no fire.
