Off Take

Whats the best take off u ever seen? I mean like place, time of day, plane, (see below), something good about it?

The best take off I have ever seen, and concorde is excluded from this post, was a Singapore A A340 taking off from CHC (Christchurch , NZ) as start of the runway is covered by trees, u cant see em, and there was a huge huge roar and then this thing went down the runway. it was bloody impressive, sheer power etc

and no i didnt stay in NZ watching CHC runways!

RE: Off Take

I got a weird experience at Strasbourg airport a few years ago.
At this time the runway was shared with the AIRforce base nearby.
We were waiting the clearance for takeoff and the jet before us was………… 2 Mirage 2000 !!! They took off all together and I can say that military jet don’t give a sh… about noise: it was hell!!

My best memory about landing was flying from ORY to BST. It was a stormy day (100 mph of wind) the runway was short and bumpy and the pilot made 2 attempts to land. Everyone was throwing up : it was surrealist.

Since that day that have made the runway longer and installed an ILS

RE: Off Take

What is the name of the LHR perimeter road that goes to the M40? (or the M4??)

I was waiting at lights on that road about 3 yrs ago when this painful sound caused me to jump and stall the car. Felt like a bomb going off! I looked around and saw Concorde taking off not more than a few hundred feet to my left. Awesome!

Go-arounds…I was on a BA 737-400 at LGW in January (when we had all the bad wind). Nice views.

It might be just me, but whenever I go in a Dash 8, the pilots always seem to flog the engines with the brakes on, then release the brakes and shoot off down the runway with incredible acceleration. PLY is the best, followed in my experience by LCY.

RE: Off Take

How incredibly inconvenient… I could have said Concorde to start! There is a brilliant little Esso garage where you can stand on a wall and get fantastic views of Concorde take-off.

RE: Off Take

Go-arounds are the best! I hadn’t seen any done by a commercial airliner in my whole life until last year when I saw 4 all in one night!…and right over my head! Airtours, Air 2000, Britannia and a JMC @ Kos, Greece. “Jetset343 Charlie is going around!!”

My best takeoff though….hhhmmm well as usual with me there would be several. I remember one being an Antonov An-124 @ Newcastle. It just floated into the air and roared over my head just before the end of of the TORA. Pretty good! certainly not the best though. I’ll have to dig about in my memory bank and come up with ‘the best’!

Regards

Ben

RE: Off Take

This one is classed as a takeoff/landing. My parents visited Cuba a year ago and flew to Holguin. It’s a very small airport dealing with very few flights. They filmed the aircraft (Monarch A330) coming in to land as it would finish off their holiday video, but it was fast approaching the end of the runway and just a few feet from touchdown, had to climb again.

I s’pose this is a pretty regular occurence, but it was a fantastic video to see.
