Amazing childishness at Redhill

A new facility for pilots, The Hub, has recently opened.

It appears certain of the staff in the tower have an issue – such that the following has been posted elsewhere by a contributor apparently connected to the field management

– we have been working with ARL at Hangar 9 to set up a system that will make visiting Redhill a better experience for pilots. It isn’t in our interest to see a tenants business fail and we have a long association with this tenant. A section will be added to our website in due course.

The Hub did not officially start until 1st July from that date all visiting aircraft should be directed to them, the only time visiting aircraft will be parked at the Tower will be when ARL do not have staff available. I am aware that certain ATCOs have been reluctant to send aircraft to Hangar 9 and keep coming up with reasons why the new arrangement won’t work, they are being re-educated. If anyone has any problems please let me know.

Simply outrageous.

I like Redhill, quaint grass field and quite atmosphere, half expected some blokes on horseback ride by with hounds.

I was a wee lad at the time, still fond memories of the 2 or 3 times pops stopped by (once by my request).

Social improvements at Redhill are long overdue. The critics are typical general aviation, small minded twats !

….”being re-educated…” Unfortunate choice with Orwellian echoes.

Ah.. please don’t shoot the messenger – That was a quote, and in most cases your guess is as good, or better, than mine.

However a little delving turns up this

It was merely that anybody in a responsible position in air traffic could possibly be so petty seemed to me worthy of attention. It appears somebody had landed and was directed to park elsewhere.

The Hub, a pleasant new pilot lounge open at Redhill on the side of Hangar 9 with a small terrace with a good view of 18/36 and the tower. Soft drinks, cakes and wifi available. Landing fees can be taken at The Hub

Moggy, without knowledge of Redhill Aerodrome, with no background information the above post is for me meaningless, let alone forum readers from Canada and New Zealand etc. ‘The Hub’ could be anything from a snack bar to a biz-jet FBO (exadurating here as I do know that Redhill is all grass), while ARL = what? Aviation Redhill Ltd? Why is Hangar 9 so important?

While I do find these discussions regarding GA provision (eg at Sandown) interesting to read, understanding helps too! Even I don’t know everything!
