I have lived in Larnaca Cyprus for 6 years right by the approach to the airport, ( I am back in the UK now ) but if anyone is venturing across to this jewel in the med for aviation ( and sun ) this summer, let me know, I can direct you to the best places to view from and can tell you what types and airlines to expect, I have the tower frequencies and the local FIR frequencies aswell.
If you are into Russian aircraft then this is perhaps one of the best places to be because so many Russians are holidaying on the island this year.
dont hesitate to contact me for info.

RE: aviation in Cyprus for spotters
Unfortunately its unlikely that i m am going to Cyprus now, trouble is that we find tht the hotels are not what we are looking for, they re ever to big or not exactley the quality we are looking for.So we are looking at Menorca,Croatia or Malta again for a holiday.

RE: aviation in Cyprus for spotters
Hmmm yes Saab 2000 gets chucked into a Cypriot jail accused of spying on the Cyprus Air Force for Turkey. His crime-taking aircraft pictures!!!
Seriously I wouldn’t be that stupid, after September 11th I know you can’t be to careful around air force bases.I am most likely going to be travelling to Paphos as the resorts we are looking at are nearer to there than they are to Laranca.

RE: aviation in Cyprus for spotters
You don’t want to end up like those Britons arrested out that way last year some time! Taking pictures at an airport because they have a soft spot for commercial/military aviation and then they get slung in prison for being spies!

RE: aviation in Cyprus for spotters
re Cyprus, Yes I would be very careful at Paphos as there is a military base there combined with the airport, they are very sensitive with people taking photos, the airport itself is fairly quiet, but Larnaca is rather busy from May onwards, Mondays is usually stuff from scandinavia, tuesdays is very quiet, you may get a Syrian a320 or kuwait a320, there are plenty of EL-AL flights and Arkia Dash 7s, there is a Palestinian service ( not sure if its running now ) you get all the german stuff, hapag lloyd 737s winglet version, LTU A330, Premair a330, 320s, Germania 737s, WEA 737s, many airlines from russia. etc.
I have a contact who is a spotter out there, he lives there and occasionally takes photos for air pictorial, he can supply me with a list of airlines etc for this summer so if you need any info, let me know.
regards
